America Must Control Washington…
Posted by USWeapon on November 11, 2008
OK, so this is the beginning of my blogging career. Not quite the trumpets and red carpet affair that I envisioned. I have written editorials and letters to the editor and sections of books for people, but never a blog. So the question I ask myself as I begin is how do I want to do this? I have a few words that explain my thoughts on style for this blog: Honest, sometimes blunt, fun, insightful, inspirational, but most of all thought provoking. Seems like a lot to ask of myself, but I have never backed away from a challenge before so….
So let’s set the mood for where we are going to go with this. I want people to wake up. I dream of an America that thoughtfully chooses a best way to move forward. What we have now is a country primarily made up of people led by the media, their friends, their party, their heart….but never their head. A country made up of folks who want what is best but don’t want to put the work into getting there. We don’t want to do the work to find out what a candidate is all about so we let the media dictate it to us. We don’t want to hold politicians accountable for their actions so we don’t take a stand. I want that to change. Washington works for us, so why is it that they don’t seem to care what we think? Here’s your answer… because we don’t make them care.
So what issues will we tackle as we move through this journey? Media bias, political accountability, third party viability, just about anything political is within bounds. I am not a radical, I am a realist. I promise to carefully consider your thoughts, if you can present them in a rational and respectful way. But I warn you that although I will do my best to be respectful, I will be blunt. We need some straight talk America. No topic is off limits. We can talk about race in politics. It is an important topic. But don’t be a bigot or I will erase your post and discount your thoughts. We can talk about gay rights or legalizing drugs or whether we should be in foreign countries fighting wars. But do it respectfully. As you get to know me you will see that I respect and cherish the diversity of people and their thoughts. You will see I love this country more than I could verbalize and that is why I dissent. So let’s talk. Let’s learn from each other. Most important, let’s figure out the best way forward for our country by doing the one thing the politicians do their best to keep us from doing…. having an open dialogue with each other without discounting thoughts different from our own.

I am excited to be in conversation about how to right the ship, it is listing badly and we will surely sink if we aren’t careful. I am in favor of a third party, and think that it would temper the Dems and Reps. If there was another viable option, the would have to be more responsible and more accountable. We need them to be scared for their positions.

Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results. George S. Patton..
This statement has been haunting me for months now. I see a message of change being touted by Dem’s and a finger point association of Bush doctrine with John McCain. The American people voted to get away from Bush not seeing what was staring them in the face. I am not Rep or Dem but I see a future where the pendulum will swing so far away from freedom nothing will ring the same for years to come… thoughts???

JQ, That is a great quote. I tend to agree to an extent. The pendulum is certainly swinging but I am not sure I see it swinging as far as you seem to. This country has taken a turn towards socialism. That much is evident. And it has all been based on appealing to the lazy Americans who don’t want to have work for a living. They want the government to hand them something for nothing. Welfare is a joke. The government cannot control it. That leaves us supporting welfare queens that won’t even look for a job. Work for a living? No way. This isn’t even taking into account the significant portion of blacks who are still looking for some sort of payoff because they share a skin color with people who were enslaved 200 years ago. I think they voted for Obama simply because they think he will actually get it for them.

People can say what they want about Bush but he was re-elected. People tend to forget we all supported him as our leader when we were a threatened country. And today, people are passive and live with a false sense of security that no one will ever attack us again. PEOPLE WAKE UP! We have not been attacked because of what Bush did for our country. I know tons of people say Bush was the worst thing for our country but they also said the same thing about Andrew Jackson and Jimmy Carter and look what they did for our country. Please wake up and stop watching the liberal news and do your own research.

I don’t know that anyone would say that Jimmy Carter was good for the country until after he left office. He was a horrible president. Reagan was vilified when in office and is now looked at as one of the great presidents. I do admit that the fact we have not been attacked is traced right back to old G.W. He has kept us safe even though we have fought him the whole way. I do believe that history will be much kinder to him that people have been during his tenure. He has done a lot of things right. He seems worse than he is because of the media’s hatred for the Republican party.
And I absolutely say AMEN to people doing their own research and learning about what is going on. That is the entire point of my doing this blog. I am not out to set a certain agenda or convert the world. I simply want people to start paying attention and talking about it with one another. The politicians have done a great job of keeping us from talking to each other about politics. It allows them to maintain control. By becoming educated around politics we free ourselves from that control and take the first step towards taking back our country.
