The Media Induced Hysteria

media12It wasn’t long ago that the Democrats and their lapdog media tried to blame Clinton’s stunning defeat in the election on what was termed as “Fake News”.  This finger pointing quickly began to haunt them, as a majority of the news media slant left and are politically Liberal in nature, with the MSM dominated by the Liberal Left.  Since the election, the media has been the subject of discussion often here, as this article is the fifth on the subject.  The Liberal media, along with their current war with President Trump, continue to put out reports that misrepresent the facts and cause lot’s of undue fear and anger.

In this case, an AP article on a leaked paper floating around the DHS was put out, with this message:

The Trump administration is considering a proposal to mobilize as many as 100,000 National Guard troops to round up unauthorized immigrants, including millions living nowhere near the Mexico border, according to a draft memo obtained by The Associated Press.

This was later revealed to be “Fake News” as the document in question never said any such thing.  The number 100,000 was never used.  What it did say was far less nefarious and more inline with what would be acceptable actions by the government:

To maximize participation by state and local jurisdictions in the enforcement of
federal immigration law, I am directing the Director of ICE to engage with all willing and qualified law enforcement jurisdictions for the purpose of entering into agreements under section 287 g) of the INA.

Quite the difference between what the document says and what the AP wrote.  Shameful!

  1. gmanfortruth says:

    Let the discussions continue 😎

  2. Just A Citizen says:

You left off the paragraph about utilizing National Guard personnel. It is include in the document. Not just the paragraph about LEO.

I posted the entire doc.. to Buck yesterday. I suggest you read it.

    • gmanfortruth says:

I read it yesterday. Yes they mentioned the National Guard but did not claim to nationalize them. They would remain under State command. Hence, the most important part is ” willing”. I don’t believe for one second Moonbeam would be willing.

The bottom line as I see it, a misrepresentation of the facts. Even FOX news called it fake news this morning.

      • Come on guys…….If you remember, I am working directly with the TExas NAtional Guard….they are under STATE control and the Feds have nothing to do with them. The TExas National Guard has been patrolling down here for over 6 years…we even set up our training program accordingly. All funded by the State of TExas under the auspicies of the governor. THERE IS NO NATIONALIZATION ,,,,,,nor will there be,

  3. One other thing to report to everyone……since Trump and the order to enforce Federal Law…..and the rearming of the Federal border…..the crossings inTexas and New Mexico have dropped significantly……almost a 90% drop. I do not care what you read in the “rags”….it is not being reported that the program is working.

NOw, what we have heard,,,,,most are going to Arizona and California. Texas closed its sanctuary cities….is enforcing Federal Law….is enforcing State law. Most of the immigrants are headed west.

Three business’ so far have had their State franchise to do business in Texas pulled because of employing illegal immigrants…the word is getting around and it is working.

Now, I will go on to say that there are pissed off people around…some business’ are pissed…but the farm labor is at full strength.

You will most likely not see any of this in print…..but if you know people doen here….ask them what the prevailing attitude is here.

So, I hope that California and Arizona are ready for the influx.

Trump also lost his battle here…..private property will not sell nor lease its border lands to the Government for his wall….it is not needed. We know how to handle it.

    • And for the hard core anarchists… is what we want, it is what we voted for….it is our choice.

      • Jim Duncan says:

And what about those who do not consent or agree, or who did not vote for it, who are just as much a part of this land that was made for you and me?

        • Those that were not here, have no say….those that were here had a choice to vote and change things….they lost. There are rules and there are laws…..good or bad,,,,it was the majority that decided. THerein, once again, lies the reality. Not whether it is right or wrong but the reality of the situation. It is…what it is.

    • Actually saw a Border Patrol hiring commercial last night. Almost dropped the Genesee!

The far left rioters who were arrested for causing trouble and destruction on inauguration day are learning a major life lesson today.

Authorities are taking the charges seriously. A grand jury in Washington DC just handed out indictments like candy.

    WJLA News reports:

Grand jury indicts 146 more people on felony rioting charges from Inauguration Day

A grand jury indicted 146 more people on Wednesday in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on felony rioting charges in connection with Inauguration Day.

A press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. says the 146 people were facing charges relating to incidents that occurred in the four-block area from the intersection of 13th and O Street NW to the intersection of 12th and L Street NW on January 20.

Of the 230 people arrested and charged with felony rioting connected with Inauguration Day, 209 have now been indicted.

    NBC News has more:

More Than 100 Inauguration Day Protesters Indicted on Rioting Charges

A grand jury has indicted more than 100 Inauguration Day protesters on rioting charges in Washington, D.C. In total, 209 people have now been indicted.

The indictment, handed up D.C. Superior Court on Wednesday, charged 146 additional protesters with felony rioting — meaning they face a fine of up to $25,000 and a maximum of 10 years in prison.

    • Jim Duncan says:

DC is ‘Evil Central’ and needs to burn. I wonder how it would handle a MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH bigger riot.

What if all the people in America who are bored or unemployed or whatever, whoever has the time, simply moved to DC and went homeless there, just camped out and did nothing but take up space and loiter and trash the place?

      Occupy DC?

      • Jim Duncan says:

It wouldn’t have to be burned or necessarily have riots or anything like that, just bog the place down with loiterers.

DC has a population of about 700K people, plus whatever population is of greater DC.

What would happen if another million or two vagrants were added to the population? Imagine all the proud freaks and loser degenerate POS’s in America convening in one place to be no good lazy bums.

Everyone could do something nonviolent(like spark up a joint in front of the cops) to get arrested, and they wouldn’t have enough jail space or pigs to handle it.

If DC authority decided to get violent about it like they have in the past, it would only strengthen the resolve of those in opposition of the current regime. It would just make the pigs look that much worse.

Editing my comments again, I see.

    • Just A Citizen says:

Yes I did that. One word. I warned you about the nature of your comments.

Consider it a warning shot. Clean it up or leave.

      • You’d love to get rid of me, huh?

        • Just A Citizen says:

Not at all. I would love for you to have respectful dialogue with others. That is all. And calling people a Nazi or Hitler is beyond that boundary. We had a go round with Mathius and Gman over that term back in November. It is not conducive to creating the atmosphere we want here at SUFA.

I also wish you would reduce the number of music video postings. It bogs us down sometimes. Requiring G to post new pages to get things back on track.

Warning in that regard. I will delete the video of the guy setting himself on fire if you post it again. We discussed that one some time ago. The same goes for any of those graphic pictures of children killed by bombs, war, etc. etc.

There are younger folks who visit this site and there is no need to post that video or those types of pictures here. They almost never add to the dialogue or information people are seeking.

I am sorry if you find this so offensive. But it is time to clean things up a bit here at SUFA. The purpose of this place is to provide a forum where people of all ideologies and backgrounds can share their views and discuss issues in a polite and respectful manner.

  6. Greetings ‘Dr. Green’

What an interesting resume’ you have. I found your ‘unannounced’ essays. But, of course, you know that, don’t you? They were gone almost as soon as I found them. Yeah, that was me. That is the REAL reason I came back to SUFA. It’s an obvious response to conversations here.

“Considerable reasons for stimulating Christians into a new occult religious society”

Is that correct? What about the rest? How about that? The dating is quite interesting too. Neither of us were even born yet.

“Virtually the rest of his life” …virtually, as in regard to my anticipated early death?

Senior sure was confident in his speech. Clinton knows. Dubya knows, of course. Barry knows, obviously. Chump too. Congress appears scared to death. And WTF is Frankie doing?

How do you like my screen name? That is in response to noting your beautiful wife go through the process of deductive reasoning. You aren’t very good actors. I could see the fear in both of you that day. She was checking me for a heartbeat, wasn’t she?

    How telling.

  7. You’ve been making connections, haven’t you? That would explain your inquiry.

Wrong mushroom though. But nice try.

    • Just A Citizen says:

Nobody here is Dr. Green and nobody by that name has been visiting this site. I suggest you take your conversations with these people harassing you somewhere else. Maybe someplace where they can actually see your responses.

      • Jim Duncan says:

Thanks for your suggestion. But “Dr. Green” is a sort of code word, as to not reveal his real name. But they are definitely paying attention.

        • Just A Citizen says:

          Why would I be “nervous”?

          • Jim Duncan says:

            That’s what I was wondering.

You know about the ghost, among other things. You, presumably, know a lot of congress critters. They are obviously aware. And you apparently don’t like me taking about it.

Of course I am going to be suspicious.

            • Just A Citizen says:

I do not know anything about a “ghost”. I have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes, I do know Congressmen and Senators personally. Although almost all have now retired or were retired by We the People. I also know some who were Governors and many people within Federal, State and Local Governments. This is due primarily to the work I did for many years. And my desire to be part of the political process in order to create change, as best I can.

The reason I bring up your comments about this “ghost” or other such things is it makes you look like a raving lunatic. It thus reduces your credibility on other things. Many of us suggested you seek help a few years back. This was offered by SUFA members as a sincere concern for one who had been here from near the beginning.

In response you just got nastier with everyone. And here we are again. With you claiming people here are somehow involved in this harassment of you that you have described. Sorry, but I am not part of this and I doubt very much anyone else here is as well.

You claim someone is watching you here on SUFA. How do you know this? I can monitor the number and nature of visits here each day. But I cannot identify individuals who simply visit the site. So how do you know who is watching?

You make claims about what it is I know and how I might be manipulating you or something. I do no such thing. Heck, I don’t even know how to do such things. My expertise is limited to what I do here, how to use a phone and email. Sorry Jim, but I am not a threat to you, except in terms of your unsuitable posting here at SUFA.

              • Jim Duncan says:

This isn’t ‘gotcha’ and I won’t put that pressure on you. But don’t do that.

I am not here to impress anyone, nor am I concerned with accusations of lunacy.

If it makes you feel better, I will disengage from the political zeal, and, if you don’t mind, will only use this for communications with anonymous parties.

I don’t know what they did to us, but I get the feeling that I am not to be messed with, if for no other reason, because it is useless to do so. I was given something quite powerful, JAC. It seems that part of the game has been to prevent me from realization. I see nonetheless.

                O do I ever see.

            • gmanfortruth says:

Jim….err…whatever you call yourself these days. That’s no important anyway on the net.

JAC kindly informed you of SUFA’s simple rules, no personal attacks. You have directed such at members of the SUFA family, and our little Anarchist community are not going to deal with it. You portend to be an Anarchist and want to live in a peaceful society, yet you came to a peaceful society and showed first hand why Anarchy will never work. You, the self proclaimed Anarchist, have failed the Anarchist test. You can’t live in peace, unless it is your peace. Life just don’t work that way. Welcome to reality!

    Fishing for perspectives.

There is an increasing push to consider universal basic income. Specifically, there are people trying to test pilot programs to see how people would respond to such a system.

To be clear, my question isn’t “how would politicians deal with it,” or “what would the battle look like to get it instituted,” but “how would people react to everyone simply receiving a check in the mail each month for nothing.” Nor, for that matter, is the question “just who in the hell is going to pay for all this?” Let’s imagine that the money is coming directly from the treasury’s printing presses. I’m asking: what consequences would such a system have?

    My initial (meandering) thoughts:
Many people wouldn’t work as hard.
Many people would go back to school.
Many people would take enterpreneurial risks.
Many people would take longer maternity / paternity
Many people would stop working minimum wage jobs
Minimum wage jobs would have to pay more
Prices for minimum-wage-driven goods / services would increase
Inflation back to the point where the added money makes no difference.
Maybe, instead of inflation, the minimum wage jobs are just automated out of existence.
Then what happens to the legions of unemployed, but not-bankrupt?
Do rents rise? Of course they do.
Wouldn’t that just re-route all that money back into the hands of the wealthy?
Does this obviate the need for other safety nets (eg UI, SS).
How much of “poverty” is a mental “keeping up with the Jones’” versus something on the lower rungs of the Maslow’s heirarchy? Does “having a home and not being hungry” mean an end to poverty, or would the goalposts just shift?
What would this do to crime?
What would this do to alcohol / drug consumption?
Does everyone actually need to have a job? Is this a real need? What if the robots are doing all the work instead?
How much of people’s self-worth is pegged to our careers? How much should it be?
What might such a program do to birth rates?

Personally, I can’t see a good long-term outcome for a program like this unless/until the robots are doing all the work and there’s just no need for people to work. At that point, the “income” would basically just be a mechanism for allocating scarce resources rather than a means to allocate all resources. But, in a time when jobs are disappearing rapidly at the hands of smarter AI (for example, all trucking and delivery jobs are going to be done a decade from now), how do we manage the transition between here and there?

    • gmanfortruth says:

      Good subject…more to come 🙂

    • gmanfortruth says:

This would be a disaster. Even the robot idea about replacing workers would be a disaster. People are not going to react well to not needing to work and most will not. The divide would continue to grow. What happens when you have many people just sitting around and not working…… get high crime areas.

I believe there was a referendum in Sweden or Switzerland not long ago on this very subject, voters rejected it.

      • gmanfortruth says:

On 4 October 2013, Swiss activists from Generation Grundeinkommen organized a performance in Bern in which 8 million coins, Switzerland’s population, were dumped on a public square. This was done in celebration of the successful collection of more than 125,000 signatures, forcing the government to hold a referendum on whether or not to incorporate the concept of basic income in the Federal constitution. The measure did not pass, with 76.9% voting against basic income.[1]

More fiscal redistribution: in addition to reforming and optimizing the existing tax systems, additional taxations can be implemented to fully finance a basic income scheme. Some proposals frequently mention to this effect the need for a tax on capital, carbon tax, financial transaction tax etc. which do not currently exist in most jurisdictions.

Nothing more than a wealth redistribution scheme.

    • In general, I’m opposed to universal income, but I’m not sure that it wouldn’t be better than our current system. If we got rid of all the other “safety net” programs and just gave everyone a check, I tend to think employment would go up rather than down. In the current system you lose benefits when you get a job or a raise, so there is a disincentive to work hard. I don’t think you would see a lot of people quiting their jobs because they are getting a check. It is already easy enough to survive without working.
What would be the reason for a minimum wage if you had universal income? I tend to think there would still be people willing to work low wage jobs for a little extra, especially teenagers, who I’m assuming wouldn’t be eligible for universal income.
The goalposts have been shifting since the beginning of time. They will continue to shift. There will always be “poor” people. In case you haven’t noticed, most of the “poor” in this country are fat and have cell phones. A couple of generations ago the poor were actually hungry.

      • An excellent topic.

What WILL people do with all their leisure time when automation replaces them. Better, there will always be a need for very low level scut labor. Who will these people be? Certainly they will have to be paid substantially more than those staying home. Or, will you just draft them for X years to clean grease pits, toilet blockages, and scrape gum off the bottom of desks.

Now in the “ideal” world, all those staying home will learn things and become great philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, researchers and no doubt cure cancer and all other diseases. But….that is in the ideal world. The reality in the “real” world is they will stay home, pop pills, smoke dope and generally be a royal pain in the ass to society. Much the same as the stay at homes now are.

So, as we approach this “Brave New World” what in the hell are we going to do?

        • So, as we approach this “Brave New World” what in the hell are we going to do?

Well, I don’t know about you, but I plan to spend my time doing exactly what they did in the book….

I wonder was Soma is like..

Better, there will always be a need for very low level scut labor

SK, you should know better than this. You, of all people.

I don’t have to clean my floors anymore. You know why? I little robot is wandering around my house right now doing it for me.

Give it another decade, two at the tops, and the whole house is going to clean itself like that. Grease-pits and all.

Now in the “ideal” world, all those staying home will learn things and become great philosophers, mathematicians, scientists, researchers and no doubt cure cancer and all other diseases.

Some will. I certainly would spend a lot of time learning new things. Some of it might even be useful.

But, no, most people won’t. Most people will simply opt to be hedonistic useless lumps. Because humans are, fundamentally, pieces of shit.

The reality in the “real” world is they will stay home, pop pills, smoke dope […]

and generally be a royal pain in the ass to society.

Why would they be a pain to society? Their needs are met, they can stay doped up without hurting anyone. The subset of society that would go this route would probably just wander off to the modern equivalent of an opium den and waste their lives away. What’s the point of, say, robbing a liquor store when you can just requisition more booze to be delivered by drone?

          • Good answer! Why be a pain in the ass? look at Chicago. We are genetically inclined to move forward. Forward does not have to be a good thing. If you want to avoid this you are going to have to play around with lobotomies and castration. Now, I acknowledge that thanks to progress, both can be done sans scalpel. maybe it will come with your Wheaties.

Ya ever clean a grease trap? Clear out a soil vent stack in a six story apartment house? In addition to the shit you have bottles, TV antennas from the roof, pampers, Kotex and just about every other thing you can think up including gun parts (remember young Vito in little Italy in Godfather II after he assassinated the local big shot). Not really a machine job. maybe in 300 years when all existing housing has been replaced but not the foreseeable future.

Of course, the assumption is that other cultures will welcome what progress we have made and brought them. Then again us history types have to look back to the fall of the Roman Empire and the loss of basic plumbing skills as well as Public Health for 1,000 years. The Soma users will not be able to survive the lean, hungry, barbarians from the East.

Speaking of lean hungry barbarians from the east!

        • I responded to this, but I guess I went to spam again? What gives, Gman?!

Anyway, I’m not typing to all out again because I’m lazy.

    Re: Chasing ghosts.

    Again, you have it backwards.

They knew things about us before we were even born. Fourteen years later, before I was even aware of her existence, she walked into that building knowing everything about me.

Within a few months, she was conspiring to leave me ‘secret messages’. The last thing I remember her doing was writing a cryptic message taking responsibility for the others. (only I didn’t catch any of it until many years later)

The message: I want to mother your children

Looking back on things, it explains some of her actions. I had no idea she was crushing on me like that. We were just friends for the short time we spent together. It was all so innocent.(or so I thought) But I nonetheless adored her. She had me at hello.

A year or so later I saw the local news broadcast reporting her death in a car accident. She is officially dead, but a long series of unnoticed/hidden anomalies suggests the official story is not what happened.

Interestingly enough, I have always looked back on her as a girl who would have grown to be something quite magnificent, an excellent mother. I have always placed a very high value on her life.

A lot has happened since that time. More than I have time right now to explain.

I have been calling out for help for years, frustrated as hell, trying to figure it all out. I eventually discovered that it all has something to do with my beloved friend, which caused me an epiphany and complete emotional breakdown. Much of what I have done since has been in the interest of trying to figure it out, to honor her, and to help her if possible. The whole time I have been rejected, called crazy, ignored, ridiculed, etc.

    Then I found it.

There is an embedded message within that makes it crystal clear it is in response to whatever happened to her. I don’t know whether it is someone taking revenge in our honor, something to make all of humanity listen to what I have to present, an attempt to assassinate me, or perhaps all of the above. Something else?

I dunno. What I do know is that it is about whatever really happened, and it is connected to many many more things across a span of around 3500 years or more. And it is pretty clear for anyone willing to indulge. …like a thousand beams of LIGHT.

Three million are dead. Many millions more are sick or dying. Whole civilizations destroyed. Trillions of dollars gone. Everyone on Earth effected. More to come.

And, as best as I can tell, it doesn’t have a damned thing to do with Muslim terrorists in caves.

All hell is probably about to beak loose JAC. You might want to quit trying to regulate my posts, and instead run to your cabin while you can.

I keep saying that humanity needs to reject the current debacle and learn how to make peace. You should have listened.

Here are the 10 planks of communism:

Abolition of property in land and application of all rents of land to public purposes. (Private property rights are almost nonexistent today. You don’t own your property if it can be confiscated for non-payment of tribute to the king, or if a government agency like the Environmental Protection Agency can arbitrarily tell you what you can and can’t do with it.)
A heavy progressive or graduated income tax. (Accomplished via the American tax system. Enforced via the Gestapo-like Internal Revenue Service.)
Abolition of all rights of inheritance. (Accomplished via the estate tax.)
Confiscation of the property of all emigrants and rebels. (Accomplished via rendition and drug laws and civil forfeiture laws allowing law enforcement to confiscate property if it is suspected of being used in the trade or manufacture of drugs — often without evidence.)
Centralization of credit in the hands of the state, by means of a national bank with state capital and an exclusive monopoly. (Accomplished via the Federal Reserve, which is not Federal and doesn’t hold “reserves.”)
Centralization of the means of communication and transport in the hands of the state. (Accomplished via the Federal Communications Commission and the regulated airline industry, Amtrak, public transportation and the regulated auto industry. Further attempts being made to seize more power through control of the Internet.)
Extension of factories and instruments of production owned by the state; the bringing into cultivation of wastelands and the improvement of the soil, generally in accordance with a common plan. (Accomplished through price controls on the utilities via their government-supported monopolies and subsidies for favored industries.)
Equal liability of all to work. Establishment of industrial armies, especially for agriculture. (Industrial armies accomplished through regulations favoring/subsidizing unions.)
Combination of agriculture with manufacturing industries; gradual abolition of all the distinction between town and country by a more equable distribution of the populace over the country. (In progress via Agenda 21, “sustainable development” communities, etc.)
Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children’s factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production. (Accomplished via the public indoctrination system called public education under the control of the Federal government.)

These planks are supported by both major political parties.

Russian communism anyone? What a joke. Focus on American communism.

  13. Happy Presidents’ Day everyone!

  14. Recommending a great book for anyone who has been in combat or suffered its aftermath, for family members, friends and counselors. LT Marlantes spent 40 years hashing this over before putting out the book. First time in YEARS I have finished a book in one sitting. Highly recommended as a “gift” to anyone thinking about enlisting. He actually wrote it for them but if I can remember back to being that young and dumb, probably would not have paid attention. 256pp.

  15. Intersting tidbit of info………since the Federal Laws are now being enforced….not one single Mexican prison truck has arrived at the border of Texas/New Mexico……do not know about Arizona/California. NOT A SINGLE ONE. The Mexican trains that have been pictured with hundreds of immigrants riding the rails….hav disappeared over night.

In my briefing this morning, no cut fences, no cattle losses, and no bodies have been found in the last three weeks. No splash downs in the last two weeks and farming employment is 89% with no deportations.

Amazing what happens when you enforce the law…….crossings have dropped, lives have been saved, LEGAL employment is up……WHERE IS THE MEDIA? Texas’ work program is in full swing. WHERE IS THE MEDIA? They must still be worried about whether Ivanka Trump is selling lingerie.

  16. Many people wouldn’t work as hard…………True, or not at all.

Many people would go back to school…….No, I do not think so. Why should they?

Many people would take enterpreneurial risks……No, the same people that take risks now would but those that do not…will not.

Many people would take longer maternity / paternity……Most definitley.

Many people would stop working minimum wage jobs…….I think the majority would not work at all.

Minimum wage jobs would have to pay more…….yes.

Prices for minimum-wage-driven goods / services would increase…….Unknown factor here. Why would they?

Inflation back to the point where the added money makes no difference…..I see the opposite. Inflation increasing.

Maybe, instead of inflation, the minimum wage jobs are just automated out of existence……..Most likely…that is happening now.

Then what happens to the legions of unemployed, but not-bankrupt?……They eventually go bankrupt.

Do rents rise? Of course they do…….Agreed.

Wouldn’t that just re-route all that money back into the hands of the wealthy?……Without question. The wealthy are that way for a reason. They know how to get wealthy.

Does this obviate the need for other safety nets (eg UI, SS)…..Yes.

How much of “poverty” is a mental “keeping up with the Jones’” versus something on the lower rungs of the Maslow’s heirarchy?…….It eliminates the top three of the five.

Does “having a home and not being hungry” mean an end to poverty, or would the goalposts just shift?…..The goal posts will shift dramatically.

What would this do to crime?……..Increase.

What would this do to alcohol / drug consumption?…….Increase

Does everyone actually need to have a job?……..Yes.

    Is this a real need?…..A job..yes.

What if the robots are doing all the work instead?……..Then we create a human race of mind numbed idiotics.

How much of people’s self-worth is pegged to our careers?……For most of us, it is a major issue.

How much should it be?…….For most of us, it should be.

What might such a program do to birth rates?………Increase.

But what the hell do I know….I am just a retired old Colonel who knows nothing.

  17. Anybody know where Dale is? I pulled his info for New Bern NC off the internet but as usual am reluctant to call and disturb anyone.

    • Yes, I know where he is and what he is doing,,,,,he will be back.

      • Thank God! I actually googled the obits. Can’t be too careful with us older folk.

        • Dale A Albrecht says:

I’m writing tonight just to let folks know I’ve just been focusing on finishing an 1843 porch on the house where I live. I only have 240 more unique pieces of wood to cut and fit. I already completed 1/2 the porch, before I am layed up for several months with (2) knee replacement surgeries. The Colonel has been informed and kept up to date……I finally have reached an age that the surgeries will be done. They have been needing replacement since 1981 from sports injuries in the wild 60’s, but I was to young….almost crippled but to young.

Seeing that I will be not doing much for months you all are getting a break now because I will wear you out later, so be warned.

I have been reading SUFA and keeping up, just not engaging for now. Gman and D13 have my email

          • Good luck with the porch. And good luck with the knees!

            • Dale A Albrecht says:

The porch had been neglected for years. Untold number of repairs since 1843 and not all were good especially the most recent ones over the past decade. 1/2 of the porch I restored but it was with splicing new ends to the spindles after cleaning them of 1/8″ + of accumulated paint, none of it was healthy to deal with. All the new railings and pillar bases are made from cypress. Each base has 40 individual pieces of all angles. Each railing is made up from 6 laminated individual pieces. All full length up to 16 feet with NO splices mid way. The house is an example of “Gothic Revival”. Lots of scrollwork. The previous owner just didn’t want to pay to have it restored properly so it was ignored except by water, rot, wood eating insects and animals and birds going after those insects, so I had to make due. It looks new but will in time require more work. If annual inspections are done with minor touch-ups that side will last decades. The other half of the porch is being done properly. New owners and they bought the house because of the work I had done on the one side. Big change though. I didn’t have to repair the spindles, I was able to make entirely new ones, also out of cypress. Properly prepared before installation and insuring that NO water can penetrate anywhere and with an annual inspection will insure another century of pleasant porch rocking…..I keep telling myself, no more, but I like the creative process of bringing an old place back to its original beauty, properly, and above all now someone else paying for it,……after recovery from the surgeries I’m planning of working with the neighbor on their HUGE “Greek Revival” porch.

EC President Resists Raising Defense Spending
European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker encouraged European nations to resist the efforts of US President Donald Trump and his cabinet to make them contribute more to the common defense through the NATO alliance. “It has been the American message for many, many years. I am very much against letting ourselves be pushed into this,” Juncker said on Feb. 16 at the Munich Security Conference, according to a Reuters report. He said that nations like Germany would see their budget surplus dissipate if they increased defense spending to two percent of GDP—a target agreed upon at the Wales and Warsaw Summits. “I don’t like our American friends narrowing down this concept of security to the military,” he added. “If you look at what Europe is doing in defense, plus development aid, plus humanitarian aid, the comparison with the United States looks rather different. Modern politics cannot just be about raising defense spending.” Speaking at a NATO Summit the same day, US Defense Secretary James Mattis said the United States can no longer afford to shoulder the lionshare of funding of NATO’s collective defense and strongly urged other alliance members to meet the two percent goal. “The message I delivered in Brussels was expected,” he said at the Munich conference, according to Politico. “It was well received by my fellow defense ministers … and aligned with the message of [NATO] Secretary General [Jens] Stoltenberg.”

How much you want to bet that we see more articles like this to prove Trump is senile or demented?

  25. Ronald Reagan demented was 12 times the president that Barack Obama was!

    • Riiiiiggggghhhhttttt…. St. Reagan.

Reagan tripled the federal budget deficit. Obama reduced the federal deficit from 1.4T to 587B (link.)

Reagan raised taxes 11 times. Obama raised taxes, too.

Under Reagan, unemployment rose from 7.5% to 10.4% before dropping back back to 5.4%. Under Obama, rates rose from 7.8% to 9.8% before dropping back to 4.7%. Looks like Obama came out ahead here, too.

Reagan gave amnesty to 3,000,000 illegal immigrants.

Reagan illegally shipped weapons to Iran.

Reagan armed and trained the Mujahidin in the first place. How did that work out for us?

      • gmanfortruth says:

Reagan took over a real mess from Carter, who owns the rust belt. Unemployment back then actually counted those who quit looking, unlike Obama and his loons. Obama doubled. Doubled I say. The national debt.

        • Reagan took over a real mess from Carter

Because Obama came into a field of roses?

Unemployment back then actually counted those who quit looking, unlike Obama and his loons.

There are different ways of counting. The number we typically cite is called U3. U5 would include those who were discouraged and quit working. U6 includes part-time as unemployed.

It is meaningless to compare U3 to U5. I am citing U3 vs U3. If you’d like to factor discouraged workers back in, well, we weren’t really tracking things like that back then. When people cite the unemployment rate back in the 80’s, they were citing the modern equivilent of U3 because U4-U6 weren’t being tracked.

If you look at the attached, what you’ll see is that giant spike in ’08 in the U4-U6 numbers. I’ll remind you that Bush II was President in 2008, not Obama. Under Obama’s term, that number feel (roughly) about half the way back to it’s pre-recession values. We have no comparable metrics for Saint Reagan, however, we can comapre U3-to-U3.

And, in terms of U3, Obama walked into a disaster, Reagan walked into a mess. The numbers increased when they took over for a little bit. Then Obama’s plummeted. Conversely, Reagan’s spiked 2-years in before dropping back down. All-in-all, fairly comparable in terms of U3 with a slight edge for Obama, in my opinion.

Obama doubled. Doubled I say. The national debt.

Is it bad that I read that in the voice of that Foghorn Leghorn?

Yes. The national DEBT doubled under Obama. This is true.

But there is a significant difference between debt and deficit.

Reagan tripled the deficit while Obama halved it.

          It’s unfair to conflate debt-vs-deficit.

In other words, Reagan wasn’t bringing in enough money, and he decided to triple his shortfall. Obama wasn’t bringing in money, so he cut his shortfall in half. One of those is clearly better than the other.

If you lose your job and you’re trying to live off UI, there are some things you can’t do anything about near-term. You have your mortgage payments, your car payments, your medical costs. They’re structural, and you’re stuck with them. What you can do is reduce your other spending on the margins. You can stop going to starbucks every morning. You can save on electricity, cut the cable bill, etc. You might still be losing money, but you’ll be losing less money each month. That’s good. Now, it sucks for you, and the amounts you owe might continue to pile up – in fact, they might triple – but working down your expenses relative to your income is the way to eventually escape your bad situation.

Compare that to Saint Reagan. In the same scenario where he lost it job and is living off UI, he can’t do anything about his car payment, mortgage, etc. So, instead of tightening his belt, he decides to upgrade his car (not that he increased military spending dramatically), he adds a new story on his house (note that he added the VA), etc. So now, each month, he’s losing triple what he was before. And the bills are starting to pile up… yes, it’s slow at first, but you’re (somehow) confident that if he just keeps spending more, the bills will go away.. right?

Just to be clear: It’s not about how much you’re in debt – it’s about what you’re doing about it that matters. Reagan spend more, Obama spent less.

      • Just A Citizen says:

Reagan was the better POTUS, in terms of unifying the country. But the real HERO of the 80’s was Paul Volker.

The only problem with your comparison of Obama and Reagan is it uses per capita and other modified metrics, like percentage increase over the prior Admin. If one looks at total expenditures Obama wins. BUT he did in fact get to govern during a period of deficit reductions after increasing them.

      • Not that it matters to you, cause it doesn’t, but those of us who grew up in the 1960’s and 1950’s appreciate he crashed the Soviet Union. We especially appreciate if after October of 1962. There was no way that was supposed to happen short of Armageddon. He did it with money, a whole lot less messy.

But, like the current batch of lazy whining Europeans, you feel free to ignore the past while setting it up to happen all over again. Jeez!

He split from the rest of us and ended up in his undies dancing with about 30 girls from every college from Berkley to Oxford that night. I remember waking up to find him passed out on the walkway with racing stripes spray painted, obvious he hadn’t moved since being decorated.

We couldn’t wake him up. We dressed him, grabbed our stuff and took turns carrying him all the way home, then tended to him for hours.

  29. Just A Citizen says:

Forgot one thing. Re Mathius’ post on guaranteed wage.

Nobody has addressed the one theoretical human behavior that is critical. Do humans really need to work to feel fullfilled? I say yes.

The types of work can vary but humans must work in some way. This is why people who sit around on welfare eventually get in trouble. There is a reason for the saying “idle hands do the Devil’s work.”

    • Do humans really need to work to feel fullfilled? I say yes.

      I say no.

      Hell no.

      • If you do nothing, if you accomplish nothing then your just taking up some of my valuable resources.

Note that in the less lovely parts of our cities where there is an abysmal lack of opportunity for many young people, they find ways of doing something. So no job, no education, no hope, you become a gang banger. Still more of them than lotus eaters.

        • If you do nothing, if you accomplish nothing

Doing nothing and accomplishing nothing are wildly different things.

I would raise my children the way I really want to.

I would write a book, or read all the books I don’t have time to read.

I would learn how to hand-carve a canoe.

But what I wouldn’t do is show up for a 7:30-6:30 workday in an office crunching numbers and data.

then your just taking up some of my valuable resources.

They aren’t your resources. The robots will be doing the work. They’ll mine the ore, refine the metal, install it in a phone (that they designed), and ship it to my house. All you need to do is stay out of the way.

So no job, no education, no hope, you become a gang banger.

BECAUSE they need the money. And because they want the lifestyle.

I don’t know if you know this, but gangs are basically fortune 500 companies that operate outside the law. The kids.. they’re just manipulated into believing it’s a glamorous life of hip hop and girls. But, when it comes down to it, the street-level guys make less than minimum wage and they’re risking getting shot. If they don’t need to make that almighty dollar, they would still be idiots, but they’re not going to commit violent crime en masse for shits and giggles.

Take away the profit motive for the corporation and the whole thing crumbles. (see, also: Prohibition).

Also, for what it’s worth, I anticipate that the robots will also provide us with physical security for ourselves and our property.

      • Why no?

      • gmanfortruth says:

I totally disagree Mathius. Working at home during the winter really sucks and is a mental strain. We call it cabin fever in these parts. A majority of my work is outdoors and requires decent weather. Being stuck indoors with little to do sucks. Having to do it year round would cause some real mental problems, like severe depression. Being productive is vital to the mental stability of people.

This is rather shocking, considering all things:

Major advertising agency AdRoll has suspended its syndication of Infowars product ads across millions of websites and platforms due to our support for Donald Trump.

While it’s not new for companies to make decisions based on political views, this one is a bit of a shock. Infowars has been off the wall, so to speak, for a long time. It’s not exactly a site I would call political, more conspiracy theory, but they do support Trump and follow all the scandal issues. They are NOT nearly as political as other sites, right or left.

This is going to be interesting, because lots of sites will find a new advertising partner, and a new door has just opened in that arena. Possible investment?

I tend to avoid companies that are politically involved, especially online. Not a bright business model.

Conservative provocateur James O’Keefe III said on Tuesday that he will soon release “hundreds of hours” of unaired footage secreted out of a major news organization.

The footage could come as early as Thursday, he told Fox News host Sean Hannity during a radio interview. The footage was provided to him, O’Keefe said, by people inside the network.

After the radio interview was recorded, HuffPost asked if O’Keefe would be releasing footage from multiple newsrooms or just one. “One corporation, multiple newsrooms,” he said.

O’Keefe wouldn’t divulge which particular network would be hit, but said it was one President Donald Trump has spent much time talking about recently. “It’s the one he’s always targeting,” O’Keefe said.

That would seem to suggest CNN. Trump has been on a tear against the network since it revealed the existence of an allegedly embarrassing dossier that intelligence agencies were investigating.
