  1. People who play this cancel culture crap are cowards.

The mob that has taken over part of Seattle should be shot and the Mayor should be hanged in public for allowing it to happen.

Liberal leadership is an American disgrace. This will be a permanent stain going forward.

    • Gman,

I posted a comment to Mathius on the previous thread right before or at the same time you uploaded the new thread. My comment went into moderation. Could you kindly push it through? Thanks.

  2. A new twist in the story about the country group Lady Antebellum. This is just so rich…

They changed their name to Lady A in an announcement yesterday to their fans, in a woke moment, to show how sorry they are for their insensitivity in using a term associated with slavery.

However, they didn’t bother to find out if the name was already being used by anyone else.

Turns out it’s been used for decades by a black lady blues singer from Seattle named Anita White. So in their effort to show how sensitive they are to black folks and their feelings, they appropriated a black lady’s chosen performance name. White has rightly called them out:

“Lady A is my brand, I’ve used it for over 20 years, and I’m proud of what I’ve done,” White told Rolling Stone. “This is too much right now. They’re using the name because of a Black Lives Matter incident that, for them, is just a moment in time. If it mattered, it would have mattered to them before. It shouldn’t have taken George Floyd to die for them to realize that their name had a slave reference to it. It’s an opportunity for them to pretend they’re not racist or pretend this means something to them,” she added. “If it did, they would’ve done some research. And I’m not happy about that. You found me on Spotify easily — why couldn’t they?”

You just can’t make this stuff up.

      ANTEBELLUM

      Origin
From the Latin phrase ante bellum (literally “before the war”), from ante (“before”) + bellum (“war”).

First use in English was around the 1840’s but prexisted for millenia. It only became used in America AFTER the Civil War.

  3. Testing…just posted on this new thread but it seems to have disappeared.

  4. I’ll try again…there’s a new development in the Lady Antebellum story,

Yesterday, in a woke moment, Lady Antebellum announced to fans that they were changing their name to Lady A because of the association their name had with slavery, and that they were deeply sorry for the pain their name may have caused the black community.

Unfortunately, they didn’t bother to see if the name was already being used by anyone else. Turns out the name has been used for decades by a………….wait for it……………black lady blues singer from Seattle. Anita White had this to say:

“Lady A is my brand, I’ve used it for over 20 years, and I’m proud of what I’ve done,” White told Rolling Stone. “This is too much right now. They’re using the name because of a Black Lives Matter incident that, for them, is just a moment in time. If it mattered, it would have mattered to them before. It shouldn’t have taken George Floyd to die for them to realize that their name had a slave reference to it.

“It’s an opportunity for them to pretend they’re not racist or pretend this means something to them,” she added. “If it did, they would’ve done some research. And I’m not happy about that. You found me on Spotify easily — why couldn’t they?” White, who has written songs about racial injustice and lyrics about Floyd, also criticized the “Need You Now” hitmakers for claiming the same name as a Black performer while speaking out against racism.

Since getting her musical start at church and karaoke nights, White has released multiple albums under the name Lady A. Her latest album, “Lady A: Live in New Orleans,” is scheduled to drop on her birthday, July 18.

“I don’t know if [the new Lady A] are going to give me a cease-and-desist. I don’t know how they’d react. But I’m not about to stop using my name,” she told Rolling Stone. “For them to not even reach out is pure privilege. I’m not going to lay down and let this happen to me. But now the burden of proof is on me to prove that my name is in fact mine, and I don’t even know how much I’ll have to spend to keep it.”

You REALLY can’t make this stuff up.

  5. Now we’re talkin’ Let’s get ready to rumble. Bikers for Trump say they’re going to retake the occupied zone on July 4th! I hope its true. But if it is true, why broadcast it?. Just circle the perimeter with 2500 bikes and grumpy old men. Watch the sissies scatter and run right into the hands of police.
    https://prntly.com/2020/06/12/join-and-share-bikers-for-trump-will-retake-seattle-from-antifa/?fbclid=IwAR0FZ1KhEqBrFsKmoYrhTxzilcW9db5JDAh03dht8OerG6-Oz2-XirVcoGo

    • Sounds like a bad idea to me. Let the people see for themselves what this type of crap leads too. This will just let them blame the bikers and republicans for its failure.

  6. What to do with CHAZ?

The biker thing would make for some awesome live TV. Watching them smash little Commie heads would be better that any Wrestlemania.

The 82nd Airborne would also make for some good TV, but less that the bikers.

Let them fail on their own. It will and basically already has. Extortion, armed guards at the borders, a warlord and more crime.

So here is my idea. Bikers can surround CHAZ and noone in or out. When they come out, hungry and defeated, then smash their heads, pass them on to the 82nd for arrest and medical attention. Yea, that’s it 😛

  7. U.S.—HBO Max has announced that the new Looney Tunes cartoons will no longer have any guns, leaving characters such as Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam disarmed. This move was made in an attempt to expand the appeal of Looney Tunes to a previously untapped market: big dumb sissy babies.

“Looney Tunes has always had a problem with wimpy little weirdos everyone hates,” said head of programming at HBO Max, Matt Singleton. “You know, the kind who just cry over everything and disgust you to even look at them. Everything other people find cool and fun, they just kind of freak out over, so it’s a challenge to change things so those big dumb sissies don’t constantly soil themselves in fright.”

Presumably, when annoying little pansies watched Looney Tunes in the past, as soon as a gun was on screen they’d start mewling, “Ooh! That’s scary! Turn it off!” So that had to go. Bugs Bunny probably won’t use dynamite or anything else interesting either. It’s unclear what the characters will do now — probably just dance around and be all boring. Experts agree the cartoons are “totally ruined,” but at least maybe “the big dumb sissy babies won’t cry so much.”

  8. Sign at local business:

    FEEL YOU’VE BEEN WRONGED

  9. The more that I think about it……..do nothing. Absolutely nothing. It is a local matter and the Feds do not need to be involved. Back off and let the people of Seattle suffer in their own shit. It is their problem. The only way to defeat it is to change the leadership;

  10. Latest in CHAZ. I’m honestly curious what all the white people in this crowd thought at that moment. They’ve been chanting, marching, protesting, rioting for weeks, BUT were they willing to dip in their own pocket? Did any one of them raise an eyebrow to this demand, that it was they only way they could prove they support this movement?

    https://nypost.com/2020/06/13/protester-in-seattles-chaz-demands-white-people-give-out-cash/

    • I am sure that a certain segment of these protestors are so brainwashed with the white guilt thing that they will comply despite the obviousness of this being simply extortion. This will be followed by more extortion should it prove successful. You can see the progression, from a knee to $10 to …. This is about instilling fear into the general population to eventually gain power over the people. The next few months leading up to the election are going to interesting and either depressing or exciting depending on your point of view. There is also the possibility of open civil war post election.

      • So crazy. My hope is that the more they make absurd demands like this, that they will start to lose the support they had. Unfortunately I think you’re right, too many are fully brainwashed.

If there is an open civil war, I’ll be headed back to Idaho for good. Dad, clear out the guest bedroom! haha

  13. CDL Life, which has a mobile app, ran a poll that asked commercial truck drivers if they would deliver loads to cities where police departments have been de-funded or abolished. So far, 77% of respondents said they would refuse to deliver loads to such cities.

And this will end most of the BS.

  14. WASHINGTON, D.C.—Trump has announced a new set of tariffs and a travel ban on CHAZ, escalating the trade war between the United States and the fledgling nation-state.

“Effective immediately, no travel to or from the foreign country of Seattle,” the president said at a press conference. “Additionally, a 25% tariff will be placed on all goods coming from CHAZ, once they start exporting things.” The president will also be cutting all diplomatic ties with the communist nation, further increasing tensions.

The tariffs aren’t expected to do much, however, as the only thing the people of CHAZ have been able to produce so far is a few beans in the community garden.

To enforce the travel ban, the president has ordered a wall built to protect the people of America from immigration from CHAZ. The wall will be “tremendous” and will have a moat and “maybe some sharks.” All foreign aid will also be suspended effective immediately.

The Pentagon even said there might be some oil underneath CHAZ, causing Congress to authorize the president to invade the foreign country and occupy it for the next 20 years.

  15. With the cops under constant attack now, they are quitting or simply not doing much policing. I haven’t seen a cop car in last three trips to town. Can’t say I blame them at this point.

Of course, none of this stuff has any impact in my patch of the country. This is a Democrat problem in Democrat controlled areas. It’s safe to say that if there is a problem with racism, it’s coming from the Left. The very people screaming racist to everyone are the real racists. Not really a surprise as the Left projects everything they are doing by accusing their enemies of it.

Lots of talk about a Civil War. I doubt it. The numbers of protestors and Lefty activists aren’t large enough. But, if they want one, then OK. We don’t throw rocks, we shoot lead.

Dumb move by the black guy in Atlanta. Dumb move by the cop in Atlanta. Too much dumb going on. Did I mention that all this dumb is happening in Crat areas? Oh yea, I did 😛

    • 100%
I had dinner with some friends yesterday who work for the Seattle Police Department. They had friends who were on the front line for 2 strait weeks here in Seattle, and they said they had never seen so much racism in their life. The people being the most racist were the black civilians directed at the black officers. Completely disgraceful. Also, they’ve had many officers already quit and many more asking to be transferred to different states. I don’t blame them one bit.

      • I’ve now had 3 straight trips to town (50 miles round trip) and have not seen a single police car.

  16. The BLM movement has lost me as any type of supporter. They are losing whatever respect that they had gained among most people I know and that includes blacks. Here is why.

    1) At all these violent riots and protests, I see BLM signs everywhere. This means they are associated with this type of stuff
    2) They were present at the Atlanta burning of the Wendy’s which had absolutely nothing to do with the police. And they cheered when it went up in flames. You could see Black Lives T shirts everywhere.
    3) In Seattle, it was a BLM officer that said every single white in this neutral zone should immediately hand the nearest black $10 and an apology.
    4) BLM officers are part of the get rid of the Alamo bunch in San Antonio and the Alamo has absolutely nothing to with blacks, slavery, or anything else. (Good luck on getting rid of the Alamo).
    5) BLM is supporting the renaming of all military bases whom are named after any person associated with the South during the Civil War……good luck on renaming Fort Bragg, Fort Benning, or Fort Hood.
    6) BLM t shirts are prevalent among the cashiers and workers at Sam’s and Walmart but Trump T shirts are not allowed.
    7) BLM members are getting more bold by accosting whites in the parking lots of Sam’s, Walmart, Target, and others demanding….NOT ASKING…but demanding money for their cause and saying that if you do not support BLM, then you are part of the problem….

The list goes on and on…….I am done with them as I am done with their rhetoric. They better stay out of my face….The big thing now is driving around “white” or mostly “white” neighborhoods and putting BLM signs in yards without permission. If it happens here and I see it, I will shoot the tires out of the cars and call the Sheriff. And, any black family that lives in a upper middle class or better neighborhood are being advised to sell and get out by the black community because they are “too white” and, by extension, are part of the problem.

It is going too far and is going to get nasty.

  23. U.S.—A team of political experts released its latest prediction on the Black Lives Matter movement today, saying the group’s current surge will likely only last until early November. The experts say after votes are cast in the 2020 election, politicians will no longer have a need for the black community, and everything will go back to normal.

The team of experts out of UCLA has been following Black Lives Matter since it emerged back in 2014 when an unarmed black man was killed by police in St. Louis. The popular civil rights group also made headlines in 2016 and 2018.

“We have to pander to them to see if they will matter,” said Nancy Pelosi. “We stand committed to elevating black voices when we need their votes and not a moment after.”

“It’s a strange phenomenon,” said UCLA professor Azad Khanna. “Every few years Black Lives Matter comes onto the scene for a couple of months and then just sort of disappears in November. I’ve never seen anything like it.” Khanna paused for a moment, noticing a young white woman who had kneeled before him. The woman asked his forgiveness for her white privilege and her years of racism toward African Americans and then started kissing his feet. Khanna kindly informed her that he is from India.

Experts believe the Black Lives Matter movement will re-emerge sometime in 2022.

  26. Texas Governor Greg Abbott this morning about opening Texas up and let business go as normal………”Life is full of risks”, he said. ” I am not going to close Texas ever again because of a cold.” He went on to say, ” I had an oak tree fall on me while jogging and put me in a wheel chair the rest of my life. Under the same guidelines as Covid, I should cut down all oak trees, close all jogging trails, and stay inside and become pasty.”

“Life is full of risks and people are smart. They can weigh the risks and take their chances. No more closures. It is up to the people and up to the business owners on what they want to do. Texans love their freedom. If you walk into a restaurant and no one is wearing masks and the food handlers are not wearing masks or gloves…the answer is simple. DO NOT GO BACK.”

“The dynamics have changed and people will change with them. They do not need a Federal Government to tell them what to do nor a State government.”

He had other things to say….but that is the gist.

  27. It’s long past time that Congress passes a law protecting workers from being fired for posting something on Social Media that may offend some snowflake. Whether the Liberals like it or not, offensive statements are protected speech.

Some college player says he is boycotting football team because Coach wore an OAN shirt. Fine, cancel the free ride and send him packing.

Incase anyone hasn’t figured it out yet, the Left would do away with the Bill of Rights if they could. There actions and lack of actions are proof that Liberals HATE freedom.

The piss poor Democrat leadership throughout this 2020 race riot stuff will cost them in November. Supporting violent useless eaters is bad policy.

  28. AUTONOMOUS ZONE, WA—In response to news that Communist pansies have taken over several city blocks of downtown Seattle and filled them with whiny little girly-men, Trump announced today he will act decisively to establish a much more “manly and way cooler” CHAD zone right across the street.

“Only true chads will be allowed in the CHAD zone,” said Trump in a press conference. “CHAD will be so much more epic than CHAZ. It will really be fantastic. Everyone agrees. At least everyone who isn’t a loser-face dweeb. No soy boys will be allowed to enter the kingdom of CHAD.”

An army of square-jawed bros has already blocked off three blocks and begun building an impenetrable border wall to keep out the socialists. Free outdoor gyms, keto food trucks, and selfie stations have been set up all across the newly established zone for maximum epicness. Women will be allowed in the land of CHAD but only if they’re “like, really hot.”

According to sources, CHAD is already establishing a constitution and speech codes to govern conversation. All citizens of CHAD will be required to lift 5 times per day and refer to themselves in the 3rd person. They have also nominated their own president, whose name is Chad. President Trump has endorsed Chad for president of CHAD.

Delighted by the news of Trump’s endorsement, Chad responded by saying “Chad thanks Trump for his endorsement. Chad very happy.”

Next door was a Cities Service gas station and across the road a truck stop. In those days, you could travel travel nonstop from NYC through Chicago until you hit this intersection. It was the first stop sign on the way west because I80 was not finished through Illinois.

Mom and I had just sat down for lunch. I had my back to the door. Mom had this surprised look on her face as she said, “There’s buffalo in the yard.” My response as “You’re seeing things.”. But she said again. So I had to look. There was indeed a buffalo in the backyard drinking water from a pail provided by the service station operator.

  31. Albuquerque Mayor Tim Keller announced that the city would create a “first-of-its-kind” cabinet-level department that would respond to calls on inebriation, homelessness, addiction and mental health.

“We’ve placed more and more issues on the plates of officers who are not trained — despite their best efforts and despite some training — they’re not totally trained to be a social worker, or to be an addiction counselor, or to deal with things around child abuse when they’re just answering a call,” Keller said. “We should have trained professionals do this, instead of folks with a gun and a badge.”

It will be very interesting to see how this works out. I wonder how long it will be before these “social” workers ask for police backup.

  32. There is a stark contrast between how protesters staying at Seattle’s “Capitol Hill Organized Protest” zone behave during the day and during the night, according to journalist and author Andy Ngo.During the day, he said, it could be considered peaceful if one ignored boarded-up businesses or graffiti calling for the murder of police. But when the sun goes down, the “criminal elements come out,” Ngo noted.”Unfortunately, last night that was made very clear, when one person on a microphone and a loudspeaker was able to sic a mob of probably more than 100 people to chase down this business that was several blocks away. They just all descended on it. It was pure anarchy,” Ngo remarked.

“[The] police never came,” Ngo added.

This is how it should be. No need for police response.

Another contributing factor to what Ngo described as a chaotic atmosphere is that many people have been seen openly carrying weapons like handguns, rifles, batons or knives. In addition, Ngo highlighted other concerns like rampant drug use, homelessness and lack of medical care. The medical professionals, ambulance crews, and firemen refuse to go into that area…………….as it should be. Let them govern themselves.

“So, this is a now one-week experiment in anarchy and chaos, and those who live there have to fend for themselves,” he concluded. It is a block party, the mayor says.

    • They are so peaceful during the day! That’s why yesterday when a black man and a couple friends walked through CHAZ/CHOP wearing a MAGA hat and caring an American flag, they get harassed the entire time, including people stealing the flags, until they are chased across the boarder back into the USA.

With the National Guard being thrown out of the hotels in Washington DC and with the pizzas delivered to the National Guard baked with broken glass…the Guard is taking extra precautions on food deliveries. The briefing also says that no National Guard Unit is to side with or give homage to any outside movement. It does not matter who it is. The briefing gave explicit instructions on how to handle situations when not in uniform and that includes associating with any of the protest movements on either side. If there is any soldier that feels they have to participate or support any movement needs to resign. This means that I cannot wear my MAGA hat any longer. No slogans or political t shirts. The Guard will take a completely neutral stance because at any time, we may have to face down movements from either side.

The Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth mayors are all in agreement…the San Antonio mayor and the Austin mayor have not responded.

  41. There is a video out there of a black guy punching a white 92 year old white woman as he walked by her. (I do not know how to get it on here)…92 years old with a walker. This is a sign of the times to come.

    • The Dread Pirate Mathius says:

      Just an observation…..

Black guy punches old white lady: sign of the times.

White cop knocks down old black man: the stiff arm was wrong, but it’s mostly his fault for being where he shouldn’t have been.

Just want to make sure I got this right…..

      • Ye ‘ave it all wrong, ye pirate boob. Nowhere in me dialogue did I mention anythin’ where ’twas ok fer anyone t’ knock anybody down. Yer bias be showin’. Ye ‘ave automatically assumed somethin’ ye should nah ‘ave. ’tis a sign o’ th’ times ‘n more ‘n more o’ these incidents are goin’ t’ happen. I dare say that if this incident was anythin’ other than a 92 year ole strumpet in Manhatten….’twould nah ‘ave occurred. ‘n I shall add that naught in me statement shows any type o’ systemic discrimination. ‘n I shall add that naught in me statement shows any type o’ systemic discrimination.

Hope you were NOT referring to the VERY WHITE dude in Buffalo who has a rap sheet for disorderly conduct going back to his Viet-nam protests.

Also, grasshopper, one must tell you it was de rigueur back in the day, in protest circles, to carry around a packet of Heinz Ketchup. When it looked like the cop hit you, you slapped it on your forehead preferably in front of the CBS cameraman. Great optics for Cronkite.

        • Mathius says:

Hope you were NOT referring to the VERY WHITE dude in Buffalo who has a rap sheet for disorderly conduct going back to his Viet-nam protests.

No idea.. there have been waaay too many incidents to keep them all straight.

Hope you were NOT referring to the VERY WHITE dude in Buffalo who has a rap sheet for disorderly conduct going back to his Viet-nam protests.

Let’s imagine I’m driving my car… drunk as a skunk on JAC’s Budweiser.

I run over a man, killing him, and then speed off.

Several miles down the road, the cops pull me over and arrest me.

Scenario: (A) the man is a wanted murderer, recently escaped from the institute for the criminally insane. He was leaving the scene of a grisly murder where he had just killed a dozen innocent school children when he stepped into the road without looking both ways and I ran him over. (B) the man was Fred Rogers on his way to teach Sunday School after his weekly donation of blood at the Red Cross.

Does the question of which scenario change the fact that -I- did something wrong? Does the fact that the guy was evil make it ok that I ran him over while drunk and fled the scene? Are the police going to pin a medal on my chest and send me on my way?

The question of WHO the victim is has no bearing whatsoever on the question of what -I- did.

If the cops committed an unnecessary violent act and hurt someone, it makes no difference – IN TERMS OF THEIR GUILT – whether he was a saint or a guy with a rap sheet. Just as it doesn’t matter if I ran over a saint or a sinner, it likewise doesn’t matter for the police.

WHO they hurt doesn’t change their behavior. If their behavior was wrong, it was wrong, and the character of the victim of that behavior doesn’t retroactively justify it.

          Does this make sense?

  42. I think republicans are missing a great opportunity to get rid of police unions right now and win some support from the black community.

    • The only knee position allowed.

      • Just A Citizen says:

Question………… when did wrapping the sling around your arm in the kneeling and sitting positions become “wrong”? I notice not one of the examples on those sites had the shooter with the sling wrapped. I found it to be the most accurate position by far. Other than standing behind a tree with the rifle resting on a limb.

        • Because they do not teach that any longer in the civilian world. Experienced hunters always use a sling from the standing or kneeling position. In the military, we teach using a sling on most rifles. However, most of the assault rifles these days have the folding or collapsing butt stock….and they are lighter. Also, the under barrel and flash guards or monolithic suppressors are designed to keep the recoil to a bare minimum for more accuracy.

All of my big game rifles, the 270, 243, 264, 222 and the 300 have slings and I use them. My M16 has a sling. My Bushmaster and AR 15 do not have slings. My 30 cal carbine has a sling but not used for anything except carrying.

Let’s face it JAC…we are the “Old Bunch”.

  44. Just A Citizen says:

    Surprise, surprise.

The narrative spread by the New Mexico Governor, CNN and every other mainstream media outlet about the shooting yesterday is BULLSHIT…………. Sorry ladies but I just couldn’t help it this time.

    https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2020/06/16/856433/

    • “As far as I can see, this was a righteous shooting. The guy in the blue shirt doesn’t brandish a weapon, he doesn’t threaten anyone. When the situation turns ugly he tries to get out of the area. When he is assaulted by the asswipe using the skateboard he doesn’t retaliate. When he realizes he’s being pursued, he tries to run. This satisfies the requirements in even states which say he has a duty to retreat. When he is tackled from behind by several people while a mob is shouting for him to be murdered, he finally resorts to the use of deadly force. Even here he is restrained. He doesn’t empty the magazine into the crowd, he drops the most serious threat…who I’m sure the left will turn into their own Horst Wessel who they will chant about at their drumming circles…and stops.

One can debate the wisdom of showing up at a mob scene of ravening leftists who have zero compunction about attacking people to oppose them; what one can’t debate is that they had a legal right to be there. New Mexico is an ‘open carry’ state, so the New Mexico Civil Guard seems to be well within their rights. And, if you do decide to take part in a counter-protest, this video makes the case that you’d damned well better be armed and prepared to use force to protect yourself.

The bleating by New Mexico’s Governor about ‘intimidation” is utter bullsh**. The mob wasn’t intimidated. In fact, they felt so empowered by the support Lujan Grisham has extended to these would-be Spartacist street fighters that they were comfortable documenting their assault on a citizen and their intent to murder him.

On the whole, I find it hard to get upset over this. These scum want to get rid of the police. Fine. If that’s the game they want to play and they want to engage in street violence, then it is time to take Kurt Schlichter’s advice. Buy guns and ammo because these people want you dead.”

    • This is also interesting, JAC, because the New Mexico governor works hand in hand with Texas and the Texas National Guard on the border. We have been invited in to train the New Mexico guard how to patrol their own border with Mexico.

However, the governor is a politician….when he is not kissing babies, he is stealing their lollipops.

      • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

Colonel, change that to: When he is NOT kissing babies, he is KISSING ASS”.

  46. Interesting fact in Houston and Dallas over the last three weeks. Every single shooting has been black on black. Not a single other race. Wonder why that is……

Last night in Houston, a white person was trying to purchase groceries from a convenience store when a group of young black men cut in front of him. The person responds that there was a line and for them to get into it. When he emerged from the store, this group of young black men ran up and started beating him…and then run off. The security cameras have caught the whole thing. The man that was called out for cutting in line kicks him in the face and says, “Black Lives Matter, you MFer”. Then, like the cowards they are, they ran off.

These incidents are not isolated. They are beginning to become a norm and not instigated by anyone. Just lawless punks. I carry firearms anyway and so does my significant other. We are constantly on vigil for potential problems and they are coming. And despite the best calls from the media, this is not a white problem. This is not brought on by systemic racism….this is not brought on by poor districts or lack of education. This is not brought on by the latest shootings. It is lawless and it is inexcusable.

Also, in Houston and one in Austin, groups of young black men are going around and putting BLM signs in people’s yards in white neighborhoods and warning homeowners that if they take them down, they will come back and burn their home. This will not occur, of course, because people will protect their homes…but it is cranking up.

    • It is about black supremacy. As long as the mayors and police act like door mats, this will continue. Imagine what the cry would be if the KKK took over a few city blocks in a major city and declared it a whites only region?

    • Just A Citizen says:

      Colonel

I disagree. It IS SYSTEMIC racism. It exists within much of the “Black Community”. It has been spread and reinforced since the 60’s. The seed is now in full bloom.

“The United States didn’t inherit slavery from anybody. We created it.”

“It got created by the Virginia General Assembly and the legislatures of other states,” he continued. “It got aided by the court systems in colonial America and since that enforced fusion of slave laws. It was – we created it.”

  48. Mathius says:

Reminds me of the guy in Airplane with the “drinking problem.”

    • So, do you think it is Pumpkin Juice?

      • Mathius says:

        I don’t know…

All I do know is I’d have a lot more sympathy for the guy if he said some version of “I’m 74, obese, eat like a dump truck, and am sedentary almost all day every day. The closest I get to exercise is golf, which mostly involves riding around in a little cart. Getting old sucks and my body is feeling it and it’ll happen to every one of you, too, if you’re fortunate to live long enough. I can’t lift my arm high enough today and that’s probably because I slept wrong last night and who knows if this is just a ‘today’ thing or if this is just how my body is going to be from here out. Shit happens. I’m not 20 anymore.”

That may not jive well with the God-King angle he’s been trying to work, but it’s just the damned truth.

When he gripes about the steepness and length of the ramp and it’s slippery and he actually ran the last bit and, by the way, I’m the healthiest President to ever live and and and… I mean… why? It’s just bullshit and it completely undermines any semblance of credibility he might have.

        Why lie?

        Just own it?

“I’m an old fart and my body is going to shit. I’ve got a few years left in this old husk before it crumbles into dust and I’m not going to spend them eating kale and jogging.”

I might still think he’s an asshole, but at least it’s honest.

Are we voting for Presidents now because of their physical fitness? Should I be anticipating President Rock, 2020?

        • Mathius says:

And just one more item… the guy is 6’3…. give or take depending on how much you trust his medical report.

I’m not quite that tall, but I’ll say that backs and knees don’t much like to function reliably for 74 years on people over 6′.

It’s not even a knock on Trump… He could have been as good to his body as possible, and it doesn’t change the fact that he’s got a large frame on a 6’3 body and his back and knees are going to be a problem in his 70’s.

I’d wager than 90% of 74+ year olds who are 6’3 and up have back and knee problems. I’d wager that very few of them could have handled that ramp much more gracefully than Trump did.

Why lie and insist the ramp is the problem? We can all see how you waddle around, with that weird forward lean thing. You’re 74 and tall.. and fat. Human spines and human knees simply were not designed for that.

          Just fucking OWN it.

No one believes you’re in peak health.

He should have said some version of “I’m too old for this shit. Whoever designed that ramp is getting deported.”

          • Oh….wow…..you are on a roll today……

          • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

He is five months older than I am . I’m 5’11 (or was) weigh 240. Just had a top to bottom physical and was told I am in excellent health …..FOR MY AGE….. back hurts, knees suck can’t run worth a damn anymore. Coordination and balance sure as hell not what they used to be.

One of the best little exercise manuals out there is from the Kennedy era. It is called the 5BX (Five Basic Exercises) and was developed by teh Canadian Air Force. 15 minutes a day plus a one hour walk or a one mile run three days a week. The thing is though, top physical condition for a flight rating differed. by age. 25 year olds had to hit the A plus chart (five charts, each progressively more strenuous) but 60 year olds didn’t have to even do the final chart and only had to go to C plus on teh fourth chat.

I could be wrong, but I don’t think he has any authority over local or state law enforcement, does he?

signed an executive order on law enforcement

Seems to me that, if Obama had done this, there’d be an awful lot of yowling form the right about overreach.

As with so much of law, I can agree with the goal without agreeing to the method (see also abortion and gay marriage).

President Trump was “very compassionate” when he met with the families privately on Tuesday prior to signing the order.

The fact that the President of the United States can meet with the mother of a murder-victim and presented as “very compassionate” and that this considered “newsworthy” is simply an indication of just how staggeringly low we’ve set the bar of Trump.

NEWS BULLETIN!!: Trump clears the bare minimum standard of human decency by feigning compassion for a woman whose son was murdered over the course of several minutes while simultaneously using them as a prop to hopefully increase his 8% approval within the black community to 12% in the coming election.

President Trump was “very compassionate” when he met with the families privately on Tuesday prior to signing the order.

It’s hardly surprising that he can “turn it on” for a few minutes for a meet-and-greet.

The fact is that in a staggering number of interactions we’ve witnessed, he is almost entirely without empathy or compassion of any sort.

Then again, as I so often say, I’m not voting for a friend. I assume all politicians are sociopaths by default and Trump is merely less capable or less inclined to hide the fact. I believe that, were Clinton President, she would also be virtue signaling and pretending to care about this woman and her family’s plight, all the while trying to figure out how to parlay that into higher black-vote turnout in November without alienating white supporters.

Politicians have no souls. All of their motives are ulterior.

Trump does not get a cookie for briefly feigning compassion. Even if it were legitimate, which it wasn’t, that is the absolute barest possible minimum of human decency we can plausibly expect from a human being – to be compassionate to a grieving mother of a murdered son.

Do you know anyone – at all – who is not a terrible person who would not be compassionate to a grieving mother? Why should I care, let alone be impressed, that someone can muster up this basic level of human decency (or convincingly fake it) from time to time?

        • Your TDS is blinding you.

          • Mathius says:

            T-Ray,

I think you really need to re-read what I wrote… instead of looking for my TDS, try to read what I’m actually saying.

I argued that politicians (I was referring to HRC and Trump, but Slick Willy works just as well) are sociopaths who fake their empathy.

If anything, this PROVES what I’m saying. Look at him go… he doesn’t give a shit, he’s yucking it up at a funeral when he doesn’t think anyone’s watching… but he sure can fake it… see that insta-frown and wiped away “tear”? Boy, he can turn it on at the drop of a hat.

I give Bill ZERO – literally zero-point-zero-zero – credit for attending this funeral and putting on his Sad Face™.

Likewise, I give Trump ZERO – literally zero-point-zero-zero – credit for putting on a brief show of human empathy for Grieving Black Mother™.

I guarantee you that, when Clinton wasn’t caught off guard, he was just as capable (probably much more so) of briefly feigning Giving A Shit™. I’m sure lots of grieving women left his office fully satisfied. 😉

            ———

What continually impresses me is when I say some version of “Blue Team and Red Team politicians are bad” and then someone comes back with “here’s proof that Blue Team is bad.. you’re so deranged.”

Does ANYONE actually believe that Trump legitimately, honestly, sincerely, cares about people? That he’s an empathetic person? Jesus, come on! The man cut off funding for his own nephew’s cerebral palsy medical care when he was having a dispute over inheritance. You think the guy who will hold the health of his own nephew hostage is the same guy who met Grieving Black Mother™ and was brought to honest heartfelt compassion?

Of course not. He doesn’t give a shit.

            That’s actually OK! It is!

            I don’t actually care.

I’m not voting for a friend.

Which is good, because BOTH Biden and Trump are shit-bags and I wouldn’t be caught dead calling either of them my “friend.” And the same holds for all the rest of ’em. I’d be willing to give Bernie a chance to prove me wrong – but I’m confident he would disappoint me in the end.

But this world where you imagine Trump is actually a Good Person™ who shows genuine compassion…? Bullshit. And then you set the bar so absurdly low that, even if we pretend for a moment that it’s genuine, that just showing this absolute rock-bottom baseline of humanity is somehow praiseworthy? Come on!

On what planet it is praiseworthy that you are compassionate to a grieving mother? How is that NOT a default expectation of any functional human being? What kind of horrible person ISN’T compassionate to a woman who lost her child? If you met a grieving mother tomorrow, would you just shrug and tell her tough shit, then go on twitter and say you like mothers whose kids weren’t killed?

I’m sorry – I don’t hand out cookies for pretending to be human. And even if – for a minute, he was able to reach into the depths of his shriveled husk of a soul and find some shred of genuine humanity – I’m not going to hand out cookies for achieving essentially the lowest bar for empathy and compassion of which I can conceive.

And goddamnit, I’m not giving Obama or Clinton or Clinton or any other those other assholes any credit either.

            • I read what you wrote. It comes across as stereotyping and prejudicial. First Trump has only been a politician for 5 years. Prior to that many people attested to his compassion and were recipients of his charity. Does one’s character change because he runs for office? The MSM media has berated Trump for lack of compassion since his election but on multiple occasions, people who have met directly with him have stated differently. In this case, these individuals had no expectation of compassion from the man because of the MSM reporting. But that changed after the meeting. Early in his term, labor leaders came out of the WH and attested to the fact that he listened intently to them. These are first hand accounts of encounters with Trump but you dismiss them all with the broad brush of politicians are snakes. Thus my statement that you are blinded by your TDS.

            • I really wish you would quit beating around the bush and tell me how you REALLY feel.

      BAH!

      · support prenatal infanticide, which claims one million babies yearly in the U.S. and 40 to 50 million worldwide;

My views on abortion are well documented on SUFA… but there’s a loooot of gray here, and for the author to pretend that it’s black and white is stupid.

Also, to attempt to paint the US-left with the brush of world-wide abortion totals is disingenuous.

Also, also, if the right would pull their heads out of their asses and get behind contraceptives and sex ed, there would be fewer unwanted pregnancies to abort in the first place.

      · are products of our Sexual Devolution, meaning they’re what we used to call people of “easy virtue”; in fact, they’re often downright depraved;

      Oh, go fuck yourself, author!

I was a man-slut in the olden days and there’s not a damned thing wrong with it.

Just because he has some kind of prudish ideals rooted in Victorian England doesn’t give them an iota of moral weight.

For all the moral relevance of this, he might as well be decrying that people face the toilet paper on the roll in the wrong direction.

Moralizers obsession with what other people do with their own bodies in freely consentual privacy is absolutely baffling to me and is one of my biggest gripes with the American (big tent) Right.

      · are vulgar as can be, violating the biblical injunction to rid themselves “of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips”;

The author may be surprised to find that the bible isn’t the law in the United States, no not even when Trump gasses peaceful protestors in order to get a photo op of himself awkwardly holding one (or what I presume might be one – there’s a coinflip that he had to use a fake one because the real ones kept bursting into flame).

Even if we accept what this idiot is saying, Jesus died for our sins, so if we don’t sin, then he died for nothing! That’s how this works, right?

No? Oh, we’re ALL guilty? Yea, that’s right… let he without sin cast the first stone… I’m pretty sure I read that somewhere…. this guy sure is casting an awful lot of stones, so I must assume that he is without sin or else he would be defying the will of Jesus, right..? Is that how all this works? What do I know? I’m just a Jew..

But then again, so was Jesus and, unlike Jesus, I’ve read the bible cover to cover.

      · support socialism, even though it now can be easily known that it’s a system causing death, destruction and misery.

Speaking of that brown-skinned, pacifist, anti-wealth, hand-out-giving, free-health-care-distributing, rabble rouser, Jesus.. the guy was a commie.

He sure as hell wasn’t a Republican neo-fascist capitalist.

Hey, tell ya what! Since the author leads off with an attack on abortion, I’m going to now read you everything that Jesus said about abort.

Welp… gosh.. looks like he didn’t say a damned word about it.

      · are vulgar as can be, violating the biblical injunction to rid themselves “of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips”;

Odd… he seemed to miss a big on on his list of things we’re to have rid ourselves of…

Let’s go ahead and turn to Luke 14:33: “Each of you who does not give up all he possesses is incapable of being my disciple”

Seems he was pro-wealth redistribution.. and the only time he got violent was when he chased around a bunch of money lenders with a whip for being usurious and taking advantage of the poor.

So, you know, it seems strange to me that, on one hand, this author would hold out our violation of the bible as proof of our immorality while, on the other hand, willfully ignoring deeply-rooted Christian principles and then blasting us for (allegedly) adhering to them… smells like… hypocrisy.

Yes.. but I don’t think it’s a tough case to make that “knowing about pregnancy makes you less likely to accidentally get pregnant” especially when there are oh so very many studies that show “abstinence only” doesn’t work.

I tried to get my way all the time…it is written that boy hormones are a right of passage.

Now prove that the Republican Party has opposed the use of contraceptives. Go ahead, I dare you.

        • He can’t……it is the same broad brush appeal that he does not like for liberals. I am center right and always have been. I have never….ever….been against birth control or contraceptives at anytime. My daughter went on birth control at age 14 for a variety of reasons. She was very athletic and needed to regulate her cycles. I do not know of any religion, other than Catholic, that does not like contraceptives and birth control.

I am going to try to look up some stats. I do not recall this issue in the 50s and 60s….I could be wrong but I do not think so. We did not see this explosion of unwed births and such until the 70s with the advent of our failed great society experiment. I can see NO REASON for any female to get pregnant in these times. There is too much on the market to prevent this.

          • And ladies….do not think for a minute that I am forgetting the responsibility of males. We have just as much responsibility as the female.

          • It’s one of those things Liberals say that is made up and used just because they have no real points to make. But I agree with you, I’ve never had a problem with birth control, for either sex, to prevent unwanted pregnancy.

And, there is a new thread posted.

        • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

Margaret Sanger went to jail for promoting the use of contraceptives. Despite the desire of Planned Parenthood to canonize her as the patroness of abortion, Sanger thought it was Murder and said so….very clearly. She believed that the place for abortion was BEFORE conception. Ifin the little swimmers cannot get through, there is NO baby! I remember meeting her son in 1967 at the national Student Association convention in College Park. he too, at that late date, had been arrested in some states for supporting her work on contraception.

Contraception was basically illegal right up to the late 60’s perhaps later. You older farts may remember as boys when we went to the john with Dad at the truck stop we saw the condom machines with the very public notice “For prevention of disease only”.

The shit did hit the fan with the pill in ’64 or thereabouts. My religion teacher in High School, Brother Cronin Maurice gave us his take…..morality, as we had known it, would be gone by the end of the decade.

The advantage/disadvantage of being in your seventh decade is that you CAN remember a time when blacks and whites more or less got along, when the nuclear family, with all its faults was intact AND when a young lady who got “knocked” up was socially ostracized. When I was 17-18 and both the Pill came out AND the Viet-nam war was heating up, you would be frigging amazed about all the young ladies in the neighborhood who had had kids and their “fiancee” died in Viet-nam. Always wondered if they used that line in ’42-’45?
Catholic teaching, again, based on what Br. Cronin taught, as a sane, worldly, college educated guy said birth control was a “sin” it was not however a “mortal” sin unlike abortion which was right up there with intentional murder. Most Catholics, going way back, have always accepted the use of artificial birth control as something they can live with morally.

Brother Cronin Maurice, for your information, unhappy with the changes within the church after Vatican II left the Lasallian Christian Brothers Order along with a nun he met while teaching, married, produced four very successful children and went on to a successful teaching career on Long Island NY. I met him at a reunion in 1991 where I got to tell my favorite High School teacher that, next to my Dad, he was the second most important influence in my life. A good moment, I think, for us both.

Over the next eleven days, 8.9 inches of rain fell on more than 66,000 square miles, causing the Brazos over flow and flooded 12,000 square miles. The KNOWN dead were 284 and 1,800 reported missing.

Not that this is important…but that was one hell of a rain.

    • U.S.—Activists are fighting racism by demanding that people of color be removed from all media, brands, logos, mascots, and anywhere else they might pop up.

“Anywhere we see a person of color, we see racism. So we must end racism by making sure people of color are not depicted anywhere,” said white liberal activist Petunia Faucett. “We will not rest until all pop culture icons of color are eliminated. Then, racism will be over.”

Activists across the country cheered as another pop culture icon of color was removed this morning. “We worked hard to achieve this goal, and the day is finally here,” Faucett said. “But our work is not done. We must be vigilant to hunt down people of color on butter tubs, syrup bottles, cartoons, and bags of rice, and take them out of the public consciousness.”

“When only white people are shown as mascots, cartoon characters, and brand logos, we will have truly arrived at our diverse, racism-free future.”

  57. JAPAN—You probably knew it by now, but today Toyota officially announced that the Prius is gay. The auto giant said it was long past time to let the public in on the vehicle’s dirty little secret; and the announcement shocked almost nobody.

“We felt the time was right for Prius to come out of the closet,” Toyota spokesman Andrew Welsh explained. “It’s Pride month 2020, and let’s be honest, a lot of strange things have happened this year. We thought a hybrid car coming out as gay might even seem normal in a year like this.”

Though most normal people had already guessed that Prius was super gay, some people just don’t have good gaydar. The news shocked hundreds of people worldwide.

“No way,” said valley girl Alicia Simmons. “The Prius can’t be gay. My dad drives a Prius. O-M-G, does that mean my dad is gay? I HAVE to call my mom!”

The gay community welcomed Prius with open arms, and got right to work on a campaign to require that everyone at least test drive the hybrid, just to see what it’s like. The group also decided it was only right that they add a “P” to their ever-lengthening acronym. Welcome to the LGBTQP community Prius!

MENLO PARK, CA—A new nonprofit organization is teaming up with app developers to help people of color find and adopt white liberals to speak for them. The program is called Adopt A Voice and will help people of black and brown descent express what they truly desire, think, and mean to say.

“I signed up for it,” said African American Bradley Trent from Columbus, Ohio. “They paired me up with a 37-year-old white girl named Claire who claims to be bisexual but as far as I can tell she just really likes cats.”

When asked what his opinion of the program was, Claire responded on Bradley’s behalf, “Bradley is just so grateful to have his voice heard especially on key issues like women’s right to choose, climate change, and especially trans issues.”

Bradley later commented, “I had no idea that’s what I meant to say. Amazing.”

“At Adopt a Voice we know that speaking and thinking for yourself can be challenging. We have a huge team of interpreters who know exactly what ethnic minorities are really thinking, what they really want, and what they really mean to say,” said program director Eve Zohar. “We know that every person of color will thank us for what we say on their behalf, and if they don’t they hate themselves.”

  59. Just A Citizen says:

There seems to be a disconnect in these numbers.

“In countries that depend heavily on U.S. support for family planning and reproductive health programs, contraceptive use decreased 14 percent, pregnancies rose 12 percent, and abortions climbed 40 percent when the policy was in effect relative to countries less reliant on U.S. support.”

The conclusion? That restricting US Aid due to abortion limitations increased pregnancy and abortions. So the effort to stop paying for abortions in other countries is causing them to have more.

Planned Parenthood and other NGO’s had an option to stop pushing abortion and use US Aid for actual health and birthcontrol. They decided to keep on with the abortion business. So WHO is paying for it?

And of course, why don’t we blame them for the IMMORAL choice which has led to even more abortions.

  60. More snowflakes have arrived at the scene. I just watched an interview of bystanders at the Atlanta shooting at Wendy’s. A car that happened to be in Atlanta from another Georgia town, stopping at the Wendy’s is SOOOOOOOOO traumatized, that they have retained a lawyer to sue Wendy’s and the City of Atlanta. A bullet that passed through the victim, hit their car. “We could have died”..they cried. Well, they did not die and no one was hurt but, in our litigious society, we might as well sue…..and there is an ambulance chasing lawyer that is taking up the case.

    Boo Hoo……

(Programming note: I wasted too much time with you lunatics yesterday, so I’m going to have to be a bit more limited today)

Is anyone here aware of Antifa using an upside-down red triangle as their logo? Or any reason why such a logo would be used in connection with them?

(sorry for the poor cropping / cut off image)

    • Mathius says:

Just to put that clearer.. what reason might there be for attaching this triangle to a post about Antifa?

Google Images does not pull up any red triangles when I searched “Antifa Logo.” So that doesn’t seem to be the reason.

    • Really??? Helen Keller jokes?

    • (Programming note: I wasted too much time with you lunatics yesterday, so I’m going to have to be a bit more limited today) It’s ok…go ahead and admit it….you love us.

    • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

      Nazi Concentration camp triangles……

Red triangle – political prisoners: social democrats, socialists, communists and anarchists; rescuers of Jews; trade unionists; and Freemasons. Green triangle – convicts and criminals (often working as kapos).

      Poor oppressed Mo-fo’s!

      • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

And that, grasshopper, is WHY we STUDY history.

        • I was getting at that, but I didn’t want to be leading in case there was another explanation.

Ok.. so the upshot, in your estimation, is that this is a clear effort to link Antia to the victimization of political prisoners in Nazi Germany? (poor oppressed mo-fo’s, as you put it).

          • On the Mexican border…..A red “inverted” triangle means that you do not go in there, or down that road…..it is associated with Cartels and the marking of territory. Usually. there is a gang marking in the center. If the red triangle is not inverted, it means safe passage. For example, if one gang member is traveling through another gang’s turf….there is a certain pathway that is marked.

A Red Inverted Triangle with a police insignia in the middle means that those police have a murder contract out on them. If a policeman goes into a know area where that sign has been posted..they will die.

We also have them on the American side where these triangles are posted by drug runners and human traffickers with a logo inside. It says if any of those logos appear on the trail, they will be killed.

            • The only other place that I have seen them is while I was with drug interdiction teams in Panama….we would see them on trails but they were not red.

            • I forgot about Vietnam….the Viet Cong would use bamboo triangles to indicate which trail was clear…..an inverted triangle meant you can go there but be wary. They would hide these triangle very discreetly and you had to know what to look for.

            • I’m sure we can find inverted red triangles all over the place, but I’m inclined to agree with SK’s interpretation as “political victims of the Nazi’s” is a bit more on-the-nose for Antifa than some or of “save/unsafe pathway through gang territory.”

              Sí?

              (still, very interesting info.. thanks!)

              • Just letting you know how triangles are used….they have different meanings.

              • Interesting, and appreciated.

A triangle is a simple shape and red a basic color. I’m sure the combination is and has been used throughout history in a million different situations with an equal number of meanings.

But the question is about a theoretical Antifa protestor flying a banner with the above image. So the question is what do we take from that? Is it “reasonably credible” that they meant something other than to equate Antifa with the victims of the Nazis and, by extension, Trump et al with fascism / pro-Nazism?

          • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

Yes, they both are victims and revolutionaries at the same time. It is actually a very smart move. I can see Joe Scarborough and wife #3 acting as apologists for the poor oppressed “Anti-Fascist”, socialist freedom fighters.

When you get old enough, wise enough and curious enough to study something that occurred 10 years before you were born, The Spanish Civil War, for example you get to see how well the “republican” side played the world. To this day few comprehend nor appreciate that the Communists co-opted it and owned it and the others became “cover”.

The other day I saw an ad for a new book on Joe McCarthy talking about how you had to understand McCarthy to “get” Donald Trump. Objectively one would have to understand McCarthy to understand how Comey, Clapper, Schiff, Nadler operate. Slander and innuendo. While McCarthy saw his 145, 265, 324 Communists in the State Department the unholy alliance between the Intel world and dem politicians saw Russians at every doorway. I daresay that McCarthy, with Alger Hiss had one more Commie spy than the current crew came up with.

      • SK,

As a man who immediately recognized and identified that symbol within the given context, here’s a followup: do you believe this could be inadvertent?

Maybe they were going for a “yield” or “warning” kind of image or just really liked that color red and triangles, etc? In your estimation, do you find it “credible” if the maker of this logo were to claim some version of “I didn’t mean it that way”?

Put another way, if someone in the Antifa crowd were flying this banner during a protest, is there any way explanation you might buy which does not draw intentional comparisons to the Nazi victimization of political dissidents?

        • Just A Citizen says:

Didn’t ask but I will respond.

If he/she/they have an explanation that is not linked to the Nazi thing then I would take them at their word.

The chance of the people in the street knowing about the Nazi connection is slim. So if that is the connection we need to ask WHO is digging that deep into history and WHY are they bringing it forward now.

          • So, to me, a Jew, this information is very obvious, very well known, instantly recognizable.

To SK, a student of history who is 160 years old, who was around during WWII, the connection is also very obvious.

If he/she/they have an explanation that is not linked to the Nazi thing then I would take them at their word.

            I wouldn’t.

No more than I’d buy a person at an alt-right rally sporting a swastica arguing that it’s just a random picture their kid drew and, really, he’s shocked – shocked – to find that it has racist / fascist connotations and, frankly, offended that you’d imply otherwise.. snowflake!

The chance of the people in the street knowing about the Nazi connection is slim.

The question really seems to me: can we expect [random protestor] to put have two-and-two together. I would say no, except that it’s SOOOOO on-the-nose.

I mean, Antifa… anti-fascist… anti-Nazi… political enemies of the Nazi…. the connection is pretty strong. But by no means ironclad. But by no means “flimsy” either.

So if that is the connection we need to ask WHO is digging that deep into history and WHY are they bringing it forward now.

            Funny you should ask!

(this ad was running earlier this morning, but is now inactive.. one presumes that they’ve noticed some traction on this).

Nowwwwww…….. could this be an innocent mistake? Yes.

            Yes it could.

I believe that about as far as I can throw it, but CITIZEN Mathius and JUROR Mathius have different standards of evidence.

I don’t know if the ad was reviewed / approved at the highest levels (I doubt it), if it was authorized by Steve Miller personally, if Donald just got it in his head to request more triangles, or if it’s just some random underpaid intern who had no idea what he was doing. But it sure smells fishy.

Especially when no one seems to be able to come up with a reasonable “innocent” explanation.

Antifa –> Anti-fascist –> Anti-Nazi –> Nazi symbology denoting the oppression of those politically averse to Nazism… at the very least, someone reeeaaaaalllllllllly dropped the ball here.

Even so…. as I say… it’s pretty damned interesting that the Trump campaign went ahead and ran an ad against political dissidents (who consider Trump et al to be fascists) and used iconography eerily similar to what the Nazis used to mark their own political dissidents.

            Maybe coincidence.

            Maybe dog-whistle.

Maybe just outright declaration of support for fascism and an intent to brand dissidents with red triangles before they’re rounded up and sent off to the camps.

Maybe history doesn’t really “repeat itself, ” but it sure does rhyme sometimes.

All I can say is that my Jew-sense is tingling and has been, increasingly so, for a while now… and I’m not really enjoying the general direction we seem to be headed as a country.

            • Maybe a page out of the Democratic playbook?

            • Jew sense and Spidey? I don’t think so…..now, on a serious note…..why are your senses tingling? About what? A Triangle that has numerous references? Can you explain it to this dumb old Colonel?

            • Just A Citizen says:

              Mathius

So it seems there are at least three images that were tied to this message or adverstisement.

Given the context I am finding it hard to see how it was used to label Antifa as some kind of victim of the State. In fact, it makes little sense at all, just like the other two images. So who is sending subliminal messages to who?

              https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/06/18/trump-campaign-runs-ads-with-marking-once-used-by-nazis-designate-political-prisoners/

              • I am trying to get a handle on this…..it is not taking. I am concerned about the following statement in the article….”“We implore the Trump campaign to take greater caution and familiarize themselves with the historical context before doing so. Ignorance is not an excuse for appropriating hateful symbols.”

So, now, we need to go back in history and check out every symbol anyone wants to use to make sure that it is not related to something sinister? Who gets to decide what a hateful symbol is?

The three Trump ads that featured three symbols meant nothing to me and as far as Nazi Germany is concerned, I doubt the common person on the street even knew about how these symbols were used. A Red Triangle certainly does not mean much to me. That said, I still do not see the issue other that Trump trying to label ANTIFA as a hateful group. The symbol on the ANTIFA uniforms and shields are three red arrows in a red circle. Supposedly, it is a reference to the Iron Triangle or the Triparte during WWII. And since Italy and Japan and Germany were all fascist states, I guess there is a stretch to this one as well.

Who knows. The North Vietnamese marked our prisoners with a red or black X……

I have to ponder on this some more.

              • Mathius says:

                Colonel,

So, now, we need to go back in history and check out every symbol anyone wants to use to make sure that it is not related to something sinister?

No, but context isn’t nothing here.

These guys are more or less constantly accusing Trump of fascism and being Nazi-like and then he (or someone in his campaign) turns around and calls them a bunch of thugs etc, and appends a random red triangle with no possible relation to the post except as a nod to the Nazi symbology.

That is, either it’s just a completely meaninglessly random upsidedown red triangle which just-so-happens to jive very neatly with the theme here, or it’s deliberate.

Now, in fairness, there are at least two other versions of this ad which do not utilize symbols from the Nazis. So, you know, one could make a case that this is just A-B testing… see how people respond to the yellow warning sign…. see how people respond to this… and that… and a red triangle… does the red triangle grab people’s attention? If so, let’s go with that… It’s really not that farfetched.

But, well, again, it’s pretty damned on the nose.

Who gets to decide what a hateful symbol is?

Here’s a hint… if the Nazis used it to tag prisoners in death camps before their ultimate executions, maybe you should be careful about using it…?

If the Nazis used it to attack and label their political enemies, maybe you should stop and think before using it to attack and label your political enemies.

(And a reminder that this isn’t the first time his campaign has made this kind of “woopie.”)

I’ll cut some slack to a random mom-and-pop shop trying to advertise on Facebook who just don’t know or whatever… but a Presidential campaign should just have a built-in check before hitting post that asks: “could this make me look like I’m aligning myself with Nazis?” and if the answer is yes, then maybe don’t post that.

The three Trump ads that featured three symbols meant nothing to me and as far as Nazi Germany is concerned, I doubt the common person on the street even knew about how these symbols were used. A Red Triangle certainly does not mean much to me.,/b>

Maybe not to you, but it sure as hell did to ME.. and SKT.. and probably several million Jews if they see it… and lots of Germans… and you can bet your ass that serious white supremacist circles picked up on it.

I doubt the common person on the street even knew about how these symbols were used.

Maybe. I certainly would never claim to be a “common person on the street.” But is the standard of hiring for social media guy at the Trump campaign “just grab a rando off the street” and give him the keys to the social media account? Or do you suppose the campaign hired someone who should know what they’re doing? So is the campaign incompetent? Do they have no vetting process for posts? Did a cat walk across the keyboard and make this? Did Antifa saboteurs sneak into Trump HQ and post it as a false flag? Did a closet racist infiltrate the group and post it deliberately?

The most charitable possible interpretation I can think of is “some intern thought a red triangle would be eye-catching and the Trump social media team has inadequate controls / inadequate process to vet posts before they go out.” Which effectively means the campaign is total amateur hour, which means management sucks, which means Trump hired poorly.

So which is it? Trump & Co are incompetent? Trump & Co don’t give a shit? Trump & Co are deliberately sending out dog whistles to the white supremacists?

Because this is either intentional or this is sincerely stupid.. because this was completely avoidable and completely foreseeable.

Maybe the random guy off the street wouldn’t perk up at a red inverted triangle in this context… but any professional in social media – especially operating at the level of a Presidential campaign – should have easily caught this.

I doubt the common person on the street even knew about how these symbols were used.

“That doesn’t mean anything to ME” doesn’t mean “it’s meaningless.”

              • Mathius, I think you jump to too many conclusions without evidence hence have a prejudiced viewpoint. I have never seen this sign in the context of Nazi prisoners and therefore would assign no meaning to it. Media people now days are young and conversant with Twitter and other platforms, hence I doubt any of them have seen it either unless they are Jewish. So once again, you are convicting people without knowing the facts. The sign is similar to a yield traffic sign which may be what they had intended. Again without more facts that is just speculation no different than yours.

My view of Antifa is they are the present day brown shirts. They are not fighting fascism because they are the enforcement arm of the fascist/socialists/communists. Fascism is just another version of socialism. Look at all the corporations which are bowing down and kissing the feet of Antifa and BLM. Is this any different than what the industrialists did in Germany in the 1930’s. We just had an economic shut down that is driving many small businesses under. It is much easier to control commerce if the small independent businesses are gone leaving only the megacorporations to control.

              • Mathius says:

hence I doubt any of them have seen it either unless they are Jewish

Ok…. but I AM Jewish… and, by god, I recognized the iconography in context.

And SKT is old, and he immediately pinged it, too.

The sign is similar to a yield traffic sign which may be what they had intended.

                Maybe.

But you’ll have to re-read what I wrote… I argued exactly that… it might just be a meaningless icon to attract attention.. and if that’s so, then someone in the Trump campaign is a fucking moron because any sane and competent PR agency would have caught this.

It’s either intentional, or his campaign is being run by dithering idiots. Those are your two options.

“Ignorance” or “It doesn’t look like anything to me” aren’t a defense. It sure as hell looks like something TO ME.. and to SKT.. So even if it’s not intended (something I’m by no means stipulating), it still comes off TO ME and to SKT and to millions of others as Nazi iconography. And either his campaign didn’t know or didn’t care (in which case they’re incompetent) or they knew and did it intentionally (in which case they’re race-bating assholes).

If you were to “accidentally” use a swastica, say, even if you can convince me you didn’t mean anything by it, you’d still be a moron.

So which is it? Is Trump a race bating asshole? Or did he hire mouth-breathing-morons to run his campaign?

              • The use of the swastika depends on context. In India it means good fortune and predates its use by the Nazis.

Again, you prejudge the the intentions without knowing the facts and insist that everyone kowtow to your interpretation. I don’t know SKTs age but I am older than the Col. I’m just pointing out that the symbol is not universally known as a Nazi sign. It may be familiar to Jews due to their relationship with the Holocaust but not to the general public. If the authors knew its origin, then it was certainly wrong to publish it for two reasons. First because of its terrible connotation and second because it gives the opposition unneeded ammunition.

              • I have the answer…..do away with triangles.

              • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

I’m 73 but experience wise, as old as Methuselah.

Been giving this triangle thing some thought.

First off, can we all agree that the two other banned ads, using traffic symbols are innocuous. That in and of itself shows you the bias of Facebook. Just like cutting me off for a month for calling out the unholy relationship Mitt Romney has with China.

Now on to the triangle. Can everybody see the advantage to ANTIFA of using it to show what they consider “oppression” by the fascist government? In the past, I have seen pro Israel and anti-anti semites use the twin yellow triangles to show what they believe is coming their way from certain quarters. That has been generally accepted. I have seen homosexual groups use the PINK triangle in their demonstrations. So, the red triangle is NOT far off the mark.

Having said that, I would love team TRUMP to find the sucker who proposed the symbol and vet the bastard. Is he just some dumb super nazi punk or is he a mole trying to do damage from within. Whomever he or she is they should be trotted out publicly, before the cameras and made to explain their motivation. If they refuse, all details, name, rank, serial number, home address E-mail address and phone number should be released to the press. Again, I am very much into the “payback is a bitch” school of punishment”.

              • Mathius says:

The use of the swastika depends on context. In India it means good fortune and predates its use by the Nazis.

                But we aren’t in India.

We’re in the US. And this isn’t just a random person, it’s the campaign page for the President of the United States of America.

We can’t apply “yea, but over there, this means…” when it’s being used “over here.”

And we can’t apply “yea, but most won’t read it that way” when you’re trying to be the President of ALLLLL the people. “So what if I my ad causes millions of people to have concerns that I’ve aligned myself with people who want them dead? And so what if a certain core of racists will see this and read it as support for their cause? I just thought a triangle was nice.”

Mathius said: “That doesn’t mean anything to ME” doesn’t mean “it’s meaningless.”

Again, you prejudge the the intentions without knowing the facts and insist that everyone kowtow to your interpretation.

Come on, man, you’ve got to read what I write before deciding what I said.

I specifically said that it might not have been intended the way SKT and I (and millions of others) interpreted it.

I gave TWO possibilities: intentional or unintentional.

Mathius said: Now, in fairness, there are at least two other versions of this ad which do not utilize symbols from the Nazis. So, you know, one could make a case that this is just A-B testing… see how people respond to the yellow warning sign…. see how people respond to this… and that… and a red triangle… does the red triangle grab people’s attention? If so, let’s go with that… It’s really not that farfetched.

insist that everyone kowtow to your interpretation.

I don’t insist on anything of the sort.

But if you’re running a campaign to be my President and you deliberately choose to riff on the Nazis, I’m going to call you out on it.

And if you are too stupid or too incompetent to realize that many of us will see your ad as riffing on the Nazis, then I’m going to call you on that.

I’m just pointing out that the symbol is not universally known as a Nazi sign.

Mathius said: Maybe the random guy off the street wouldn’t perk up at a red inverted triangle in this context… but any professional in social media – especially operating at the level of a Presidential campaign – should have easily caught this.

It may be familiar to Jews due to their relationship with the Holocaust but not to the general public.

Mathius said: Ok…. but I AM Jewish… and, by god, I recognized the iconography in context.

There are several million of us in this country. United States citizens.

He’s not running to be “President of the United States except for the Jews.” We’re part of this country, too, last time I checked.

If we accept that it was inadvertent, that it was just alarming and offensive to Jews entirely by mistake, we still have to consider that no one in the Trump campaign looked at this and said “hey, this might be problematic.” And that can only be because (A) no one looked at it after some random intern made it (B) someone looked at it, but didn’t care that it gave the impression of aligning the campaign with Nazi iconography or (C) someone looked at it, but didn’t realize there might have been a problem here.

If he made an ad that “inadvertently” just said “Get rid of the faggots” and featured an inverted pink triangle, I would think someone should have perked up at that, too. What? No one meant to say that.. in many parts of the world, that word means cigarette! Our social media intern is from the UK, that’s how they say it there. Just because you were offended doesn’t mean everyone else would take offense. It definitely wasn’t meant that way, you TDS liberals are just twisting it to mean that. This was clearly intended as an anti-smoking PSA. That pink triangle? Just random, really, just a coincidence. You snowflakes are so sensitive. Nothing was meant by it – it was just supposed to be eyecatching. It’s not like most random people off the street would recognize the symbolism of an inverted pink triangle, so why should we kowtow to your over-sensitivity about it? ……………… I mean… maybe. I don’t buy that, but there are STILL only two options: he intended it (in which case he’s an asshole) or his campaign is staggeringly incompetent.

How hard is it to conduct quality control before a post goes out? I can’t send an email or a report of any kind to an investor without my boss and/or the compliance officer reviewing it first. You mean to tell me the standard of review for the President of the United States is lower than “any random communication to financial investor”?

If the authors knew its origin, then it was certainly wrong to publish it for two reasons. First because of its terrible connotation and second because it gives the opposition unneeded ammunition.

                Yes.

But if they DIDN’T know, it’s still bad because it means his campaign is run by dithering idiots.

        • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

          Grasshopper:

Never let a symbol like that go to waste. The intelligentsia of the left certainly know the symbol. They will make every effort to get YOU to understand it and use it to build on your sympathy.

What they miss but our Antifa friends will get away with is that the current Antifa crop align with anti-Zionist groups who use anti-Zionism as a cover for basic anti-semitism. Personally the rioting two weeks back especially that led by the masked white folk in black reminded me more of Krystallnacht than anything else. Ditto for the lack of police response attributable to the tacit support of far left politicians even Jewish politicians .

Your “Jew sense” should be heightened but you are probably looking in the wrong direction. In a country where the vast majority of right wing, self described fundamentalist Christians have accepted the state of Israel and embraced it and embraced the Jewish people as their spiritual older brothers, the danger comes from somewhere far different than the 1930’s or even the 1960’s . I will throw in that as a student activist in the 1960’s, a member of YAF, a delegate to the left leaning National Student Association, I saw the beginnings of the role reversal after the six day war. Suddenly the left was “alarmed” and the right did a double take on Jewishness in general. It was interesting and has born much interesting fruit over the years.

  62. A Washington state mayor was fine with the Black Lives Matter protests that followed George Floyd’s death in police custody.
But that was until vandals damaged her home, according to reports.
“I’m really trying to process this,” Selby told the newspaper Saturday, after the rioters’ Friday night spree left her front door and porch covered with spray-painted messages. “It’s like domestic terrorism. It’s unfair.

Another BLM supporter, ESPN writer Chris Martin Palmer, who commented “Burn it all down,” when retweeting a photo of a Minneapolis building in flames in late May, had a different reaction when rioters came close to his house, The Sporting News reported.
“Get these animals TF out of my neighborhood,” Palmer wrote. “Go back to where you live.”

    My….how the worm turns.

    • Figures! People act so tough on social media where things are far enough away, but the minute it shows up a little too close to home or someone confronts them face to face, they lose their spine.

    • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

      Karma……is a bitch!

  63. Well, they found the young man that blindsided the 92 year old lady………he has been arrested 115 times on charges from aggravated sexual assault, sexual predator, registered as a sex offender, burglary, theft, assault, and civil conspiracy. And he was still on the streets of New York.

  64. I am not so sure that it would be a bad thing for the young Mathius’ of the world see what they can change….us old folks have been through this same scenario before. This racial tension is a cake walk compared to what it was 50 years ago…..but it is the same and will end the same. There will be more riots and more burning. If the Dems take control of all three branches, we will go through the same shit we have been through before….it is a cycle. There will be a plethora of new laws passed and more laws on a discrimination that does not exist but they think it does. There will be more statistical analysis and the numbers will be skewed to whatever purpose they want. Taxes will go up and up and the same corporations and politicians and their families will be exempt…just like before. The black community thinks they are making a statement and the Dems are just laughing their collective asses off…..they will get the black vote on the same lies that were told in the 60s and 70s. They will raise the minimum wages to where the illegals ( and they will always be illegals ) will move in and take all the jobs again. They will increase the welfare roles and reduce all the penalties to where the masses become a mass of do nothing snowflakes.

Robert’s SCOTUS did no favors for the black community and time will show it. There will be no immigration reform. There was none when the Dems had total control and there will be none now. This is nothing more than the second verse of the same song and it is sad.

BUT, the good thing….those of us long in the tooth know what is coming and how to prepare for it. The Mathius’ of the world do not….they are idealists, just like before….no disrespect here intended at all but history repeats itself and it is doing it again. There is and will be no such thing as the Great Society.

I am ready…it is a shame to have to carry arms again. I was getting used to not carrying all the time but I see that things are happening. When I sit on my porch and watch the evening sunsets, I think that maybe Trump should be defeated. I think the youngsters need to see what is going to happen. It is not going to be pretty.

So, I will sit here and await to engage my plans if the Senate and House and Presidency becomes the socialist mantra it wants to be. As I said, I am ready and my money and assets will be protected.

    Sigh….time for a Dr Pepper.

    • his racial tension is a cake walk compared to what it was 50 years ago

      Maybe.

I’m given to understand that some moratorium on foreclosures and evictions (Corona-related) is about to expire come July. Let’s see how this powder keg looks when millions of (mostly poor minority) people are suddenly homeless.

They will raise the minimum wages to where the illegals ( and they will always be illegals ) will move in and take all the jobs again.

Maybe… but this is why I support capital punishment for any company that knowingly hires illegal immigrants.

Oh, you hired Jose from over the border and paid him under the table? Great, you’ve just lost your company charter.

I don’t care if you’re Colonel’s Farm or Amazon. Corporate Capital Punishment.

There will be no immigration reform. There was none when the Dems had total control and there will be none now.

Did I miss it when Red Team had total control?

The Mathius’ of the world do not….they are idealists, just like before….no disrespect here intended at all but history repeats itself and it is doing it again.

Yes, for example, in the United States, it’s currently 1930’s Germany.

The Mathius’ of the world do not….they are idealists, just like before….no disrespect here intended at all but history repeats itself and it is doing it again.

I think that maybe Trump should be defeated.

      I agree!!

As I said, I am ready and my money and assets will be protected.

The one thing that’s going to happen, and it’s REALLY going to piss me off, is that the collapse might happen after the election. And then everyone is going to turn around and blame the Democrats even though Red Team has been in the drivers’ seat for the last four years. Just like Obama got saddled with ’08 even though the collapse started before he won the election.

And the fucking Red Team is going to suddenly rediscover fiscal conservatism and fear of the debt and find that they don’t have a single penny to spare for any kind of priority Biden et al might have. And then the left is going to get pissy about Biden not accomplishing anything.

As I said, I am ready and my money and assets will be protected.

Brace for the drop. It doesn’t matter who is in control. There’s too much debt, too much corporate leverage. The shit is going to hit the fan.

      Buy long-dated S&P puts.

      • We did not blame Obama for the ’08 financial crisis. We blamed him for the anemic recover. The crisis had roots dating back to Carter, expanded on by Clinton and when Bush 2 warned about it, Barney Frank blocked any corrective action. Bush and the Rs were too timid to push the issue. By ’06 Pelosi controlled Congress thus nothing happened. In the recovery phase, we bailed out the banks instead of letting them go under as we should have. We bailed out GM and Chrysler again circumventing the normal bankruptcy process. the former was Bush and the latter Obama. We spent like drunken sailors under Obama and raised taxes, both wrong moves which slowed the recovery.

On immigration. I seem to recall that you are an open borders guy. Now you want to punish anyone that hires illegals. Does this include those that hire gardeners and nannies? Will you bankrupt them too? What are these illegal immigrants to do when they come here, collected unemployment? You want universal healthcare even for the illegals. So open the gates but do not let them work. Give them free stuff for which all citizens and legal immigrants must pay for. This is insane.

        • We did not blame Obama for the ’08 financial crisis.

I’m not sure who “we” is in this statement.

I’m confident that I saw people on SUFA blame him for the collapse because his impending election destroyed confidence in the markets.

We blamed him for the anemic recover.

          We needed to delverage.

I’m not sure what world you’re living in that we can have an implosion like ’08 and then immediately bounce-back with a clean bill of health.

Bush and the Rs were too timid to push the issue.

Bush and the R’s sure weren’t timid about pushing other issues they felt strongly about.

And the D’s sure weren’t very good at saying no.

On immigration. I seem to recall that you are an open borders guy. Now you want to punish anyone that hires illegals

          Very much so.

They should be able to come here legally, work legally, pay taxes legally, and get paid minimum wage legally.

Circumventing that (in order to under-pay workers and evade taxes) is illegal and should result in the death penalty for the corporation.

Does this include those that hire gardeners and nannies?

Yes. A company which hires illegal immigrants (in order to under-pay workers and avoid taxes) is a company that needs to be put out to pasture.

          Will you bankrupt them too?

          Yes.

What are these illegal immigrants to do when they come here, collected unemployment?

They should be able to come here legally and work at the same wage as any other American.

You want universal healthcare even for the illegals.

          Yes.

So open the gates but do not let them work.

I want to open up the gates because the gates are evil.

I want to let them work. Legally.

And I want them to earn the same wage as any other American because (A) they should ear a living wage and (B) letting companies underpay illegal immigrants results in depressed wages for everyone else.

On top of this, they are evading taxes which benefit society.

On top of that, the pressure to come here for a job deminishes if there are fewer jobs to be had. Right now, they can virtually guarantee themselves a job picking strawberries because that job pays less than it can legally be offered to an American. By insisting that immigrants get paid minimum wage and pay taxes, it destroys the incentive to hire illegal immigrants over Americans unless there is a labor/skill shortage. Why is a company going to risk massive penalties and fines to hire an illegal immigrant when it can hire an American citizen for the same rate?

And if you can’t out-compete them on a playing field which is that slanted in your favor, then you don’t DESERVE that job.

          • So……you have abandoned your libertarian gene……because everything, well, most everything, that you said above is not freedom, it is force.

Question….in a fully free society, why should people not compete for wages? If Jose Tamalebender wants to come to work and he says I will do it for 5 bucks….why is it a “crime” for any company or individual to pick a $5 guy over a $10 guy?

I certainly do not want to pay $10 for a pound of strawberries….I will quit eating them. But I will buy all I can eat for two bucks a pound. It is called choice.

You know….choice….you get to decide and not have the government decide for you…..

            • The SE Asian families rent or buy an acre or two of land and plant berries here. Then sell them in road side stands. They raise good berries. I don’t know how much they make but they have no payroll.

              • Yes, the Asian population here puts us to shame…family oriented…all work at the same thing…excel in learning English and Mathematics and Sciences…..great work ethic. I have tried to hire Asians but none are looking for work..they work their own deals.

        • So you would bankrupt individuals that hire illegal nannies and gardeners?

You cannot have open borders and a welfare state with a minimum wage. It will not work. When jobs get scarce, what makes you think these new immigrants will not undercut the minimum wage? All you will do is create an even bigger problem and more poverty but then that is what the D party wants.

          • Let remember that it was Democrats who fought to keep slavery and are then mostly responsible for all of todays problems. Shit, they were screwing this country up before it was a country. 😛
            BWAHAHAHA

      • The one thing that’s going to happen, and it’s REALLY going to piss me off, is that the collapse might happen after the election. Exactly what is going to piss you off…..the fact that Biden will get blamed or the fact that a lot of wealthy people will pull out.

      • I’m given to understand that some moratorium on foreclosures and evictions (Corona-related) is about to expire come July. Let’s see how this powder keg looks when millions of (mostly poor minority) people are suddenly homeless. This was overkill…..in my opinion… and foreclosures and mortgages and credit cards and car payments are due. They need to be paid. What about those who have been forced to extend credit? Do they not get a say in this?

They should be able to come here legally, work legally, pay taxes legally, and get paid minimum wage legally. Did you read this carefully? You, who are against laws, sure use the term legal a lot. But, they can come here legally…follow the rules. But if you want open borders then have open wages. What ever the market will bring. But you don’t want that do you? You do not want competition in wages…..and I ask the question…why not? (please, no diatribe about “living wage”…you do not get to determine that. True open markets and wages…whatever the market will bear…..what is wrong with that?

  65. Texas to open up 100% shortly. Amusement parks and water parks are opening today.

      • And what is this supposed to mean? There is no definition of the Y-axis. If this is cumulative Covid deaths, why is it surprise that the curve is still rising? It is cumulative (total number) not the death rate. On top of that, an increased rate with the reopening of business not to mention the protests and riots is to be expected. The shut down was to prepare for it not to stop it. As I have said before, this virus will continue to move through the population until herd immunity is achieved or a vaccine is developed. Nothing will stop it. The closure was to slow it down so that we could prepare. The deaths are inevitable and will total about the same whether it takes 4 months or 4 years to achieve immunity. Portect the most vulernable and get on with business.

        • And what is this supposed to mean? There is no definition of the Y-axis

          New cases daily.

If it were cumulative deaths, I’d be very interested to know what’s going on on the days when the line drops…

The shut down was to prepare for it not to stop it.

I didn’t make any claims at all… just offering up a graph of new cases over time which appears to show cases in Texas spiking as they re-open. This of course, suggests that deaths will also spike in a few days/weeks.

As I have said before, this virus will continue to move through the population until herd immunity is achieved or a vaccine is developed.

And as -I- have said before: you are completely correct.

          Nothing will stop it.

          Stop? No.

But we can slow it down a bit.

The closure was to slow it down so that we could prepare.

          Not exactly.

Yes, preparation was part. As was learning about the disease and finding out what treatments work…

But the biggest aspect, at least in my understanding, is that to “flatten the curve” which is to say “we’re all going to get it, but if we all get it over a longer time period, then the health care system can cope with it.”

The deaths are inevitable and will total about the same whether it takes 4 months or 4 years to achieve immunity.

See above re curve-flattening. If we all got sick tomorrow, the shit would hit the fan in a week/two and a lot of people would die. Getting sick over a 4 year period (which is all-but-impossible) would mean almost that the system has plenty of bandwidth to handle it.

Portect the most vulernable and get on with business.

Trying to.. I’ve got an immunocompromised mother-in-law.. it’s hard to keep her safe while “getting on with business.”

          • Why are you so argumentative. If this is new cases in Texas, then the spike is to be expected. flattening the curve was to prepare for the onslaught not to stop it. It is the area under the curve that will not change. Are you trying to say that we still do not have the capacity to treat the sick hence need to keep the economy in a lock down? How long will this last? Until the election? You want to win that bad? How cruel of you?

            • Why are you so argumentative.

              ‘Cause I’m a Jew.. it’s our thing.

Come on, man! We’ve been over this!

              Why are you so argumentative.

‘Cause my family tree is full of lawyers.. it’s kind of our things.

flattening the curve was to prepare for the onslaught not to stop it.

Flattening the curve is an ongoing this… we need to keep the curve below max capacity.

That might be “open immediately.” What do I know?

But if the curve won’t be below that, then we need to flatten it.

Are you trying to say that we still do not have the capacity to treat the sick hence need to keep the economy in a lock down? How long will this last? Until the election? You want to win that bad? How cruel of you?

I don’t think I said anything along any of those lines…?

              • We never came close to max capacity so why after 3 months of preparation would we reach it now. A large part of the problems were in nursing homes which could have been avoided had not certain governors demanded patients be readmitted there.

      • Worth the risk…….Texas will not shut down…not under Abbott..no more. And I am very high risk…age, diabetes, and a compromised immune system from Vietnam….made it so far.

  66. SKT: Having said that, I would love team TRUMP to find the sucker who proposed the symbol and vet the bastard. Is he just some dumb super nazi punk or is he a mole trying to do damage from within. [Or some idiot kid who just doesn’t know any better.] Whomever he or she is they should be trotted out publicly, before the cameras and made to explain their motivation.

The thing is, whatever the motivation of the random guy who posted the article, it still should have been vetted by people who know better, no?

I mean, imagine you were running for President and had a social media presence… would you NOT have someone senior with experience whose job it is to ensure that you don’t accidentally employ Nazi iconography or otherwise problematic messaging?

Would you trust your campaign to some idiot high school kid? Of course not! You’d have a vetting process for everything that goes out before it goes out. After the first time Trump got called out for using a Star of David over a pile of money to attack Clinton, you’d THINK that there would be a checklist for everything that leaves the campaign.

I mean, even if you don’t care or don’t mean it that way, wouldn’t you have someone on staff whose job it is to make sure you don’t accidentally hand over such easy ammunition to your opponents?

Would you put your campaign at the mercy of a single person with no checks? Of course not. So where were those checks? And why didn’t they pick up such a glaring issue like this? Or are there no checks? And what does that say about those running the campaign and those who hired those people?

Even if it’s not “offensive,” wouldn’t you just be smart enough to ensure there are checks in place to make sure that you don’t accidentally send messages you don’t want to send?

    • Mathius, give it a rest. This is trivial BS. We have far bigger issue in this country than this.

      • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

He is RIGHT to question it and WE should know the answer. I want the dunderhead brought out for either a rational explanation or a public scourging or, if a mole, like so many in the White House, like Colonel Vindermann, public execution.

      • Mathius, give it a rest.

    • Stephen K. Trynosky says:

Your mistake is in assuming that anyone under 40 or so even knew there was a WW 2 or that we fought Germany. You and I know that something like this goes to some middle manager somewhere who knows less history than you.

      • Your mistake is in assuming that anyone under 40 or so even knew there was a WW 2 or that we fought Germany.

I know this is facetious, but I’m under 40.. I have 3 years and one week remaining.

You and I know that something like this goes to some middle manager somewhere who knows less history than you.

        Probably.

        But why?

If it were my campaign, item one in the checklist would be “Ask a historian if this has any troubling connotations.” That would have been put at the top of the list after the Clinton / Star-of-David-on-a-pile-of-money debacle. Why the hell wouldn’t they have learned from that mistake?

Is the guy posting this young, white, conservative, and straight? That’s fine, but get someone who can look at it from the other perspective(s) so you don’t accidentally shoot yourself in the foot.

Again, even if you don’t care, even if your base won’t care… why hand easy ammunition to the other side? I can practically smell the attack ads that are going to come out of this.

  67. Pretty interesting move by AOC and her followers reserving thousands of Trump tickets…..cool move.
