Wednesday Night Open Mic for July 21, 2010

And a hearty good evening to all of my dear SUFA readers. I apologize for my lack of participation this week. I traveled all day on Tuesday and arrived late that night in Central Florida for a few days spent with my father. I simply never seem to have as much time with him as I would like to have. Alas, this trip is the same, as I must be going back on Friday. It is worth all the driving just to watch Canine Weapon and my father’s dog play endlessly for the last 36 hours (and I do mean endlessly). Tomorrow a little golf with the old man, where he will whip me. I will post an article or two to the open mic this evening, but probably won’t get up to my usual 4. As always, everyone is invited to bring their own topics to the discussion. While I haven’t been able to participate, I have been checking in to watch some of the discussions. I will be doing the same for the next day or two until I get home and can get back to my regular schedule.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for June 29, 2010

We come to another Open Mic night with a full plate of topics out there. I know I could have simply picked out some of the big ones out there and ran with them. But everybody is doing that! So I decided to find some of the other stories out there and offer them up, with the full understanding that if it is a big story, someone else will be offering them up throughout the day. I intend to eventually write about Kagan, but I am not sure where I stand on her yet. The hearings aren’t giving me a lot of info. I am also going to write about the Court’s gun ruling when I can, because I think it is important, and will have a ripple effect on some other stuff. I also really wanted to offer something quick on the videos that JAC suggested, but I haven’t yet had a moment to sit down and watch them, and probably won’t have time until this weekend. But I will offer a link to them in a separate article tomorrow so look for that to make it easier for folks to find them. For tonight I offer the Federal Government boycotting Arizona, changes to the FMLA interpretations, an arrogant Congressman, and a question about what may turn out to be a nightmare for the GOP in Nevada.

RNC Chairman Steele Says GOP base is Bigoted?

republican-symbolI got wind of this and to be honest I was a bit shocked when I read it. Many of the readers of this blog would consider themselves conservative. At least that is the impression that I get from all the comments. We have a few folks from the left (which I would like to see more of), but a generally conservative base. I often comment that the Republican party is no better than the Democrats these days. And I know I am not alone when I say the Republican party over the last bunch of years has become a party we don’t recognize any longer, and a party that certainly does not get unwavering support. Reading about RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s comments yesterday showed me a side of the Republican party that is exactly why I walked away from them several years ago.

The Piece I Said I Would Never Write

I have to say up front that I despise that I am even writing about this topic. I told my wife when I started this blog that I was not going to get into it and would leave it alone. As many of you have seen I have stayed fairly hands off with it when it comes up in the comments. But there are many of you who are having these discussions in the threads of other posts so I have given up on ignoring it. I will give you my thoughts. on the subject, but I will not, I repeat I will not, pretend that I have a definitive answer or that I know the right path forward. I am just offering thoughts, nothing more, nothing less. And then you can all debate away….

Government as Your New Daddy

socialist-party-ca-sealI was sitting here thinking about what I want to write about tonight. I jumped over to Fox News and saw this story and I realized that regardless of what I wanted to write about I was going to write about this because it fired me up. Furthermore I think this topic is one that I have not dedicated nearly enough time to over the last couple of months on the site. I say not nearly enough time because I think it is one of the BIGGEST problems in America today and one of the things we need badly to overcome. The socialist agenda has been furthered so well because we are letting them get to our children before we have the chance to raise them ourselves. We are in this situation today because this problem was not addressed 25 years ago when it first started to rear its socialist head…

Has the Time Come for Republicans to Marginalize God?

church_state1OK, I know that this is upsetting some of you already. You read that headline and the hackles on your back went up. Let me say first of all that I am not saying that the answer to this question is yes. I am also not saying it is no. I am saying I want to have a discussion with all of you smart folks about this. We have been discussing a way forward for the Republican party. I believe the answer may lie in changing the party’s stance in order to re-create the party as one more for the moderate voters in America. And I believe that this question has to be asked as we discuss this subject. It plays into a bunch of platform issues, and the reality is that the vast majority of Americans do not fall into the extreme right or extreme left.

UN-American Civil Liberals Union

So I have made my way through the holidays with work and school and now I can get back to focusing on writing a bit more often. As we have seen, there have been a lot of distractions keeping me from my purpose here. So a bit of re-focussing for me. Today’s topic is the American Civil Liberties Union, better known as the ACLU. What a disgusting group masquerading as a group “protecting Americans”. In fact, all that they are doing is protecting Liberal ideals.
The Fraud that is the ACLU

Libertarian Platform Act IV

libertarian-party-sealI have to say that I am very pleased with the response to the first three acts in our dissection of the Libertarian platform. There have been hundreds of people visiting the site and reading what we are discussing, which only helps my argument that people are interested in learning what this party is about. But I encourage more of you to post comments! You don’t have to know politics. You know what you believe and that is what we are trying to hash out here! So on to the rest of the “personal freedoms” section…
