It’s Not Doom and Gloom… It’s Reality

I read the thoughts the other night from one of the long-time participants here at SUFA. They expressed that they don’t often come here any longer and that they probably won’t in the future because, in their opinion, they are not missing anything by not coming to SUFA. I can understand that. SUFA certainly isn’t for everyone. It requires that you at least attempt to set aside your personal dogmas and try to see different points of view. Certainly there are different levels of ability to do so, but that just adds to the charm. What I think makes SUFA great is that most of the people who are on here are at least willing to consider the different perspectives and address them individually (despite the fact that Charlie for some odd reason has fallen into the belief that BF and I share the same perspectives, which is really, really not accurate).
I Love This Country but Refuse to Stick My Head in the Sand

Channeling John Adams

soap-box-2My wife and I were watching the first part of the HBO mini-series this evening that chronicled the contributions of John Adams during the time of our founders. I have watched it before, a while ago. Mrs. Weapon had not watched any of it. So we thought we would sit down and watch an episode each night that we can until we finish it. I was listening to the speech that he gave just before he left for Philadelphia as one of the 5 representatives for the congress being held there. As I did, something really struck home with me. That spark has put me back on my soapbox tonight. And that is that the people of the United States have completely lost sight of everything that the founders were striving for when they did the things that they did. We have fallen into traps that were laid with the best of intention in most cases, and nefariously in others. I hear the calls to return to our roots and I submit to you that we are not ready to return to our roots….

What Did Thomas Jefferson Know About the Internet?

constitution_coverI want to thank everyone for yet another spirited debate yesterday as we discussed the treatment of Christians in today’s America. For the most part everyone was respectful and stuck to the facts rather than going on a religious rant. We were fortunate to have many different views to learn from. I am always awed by the different perspectives and my ability to learn from them all. In particular I want to welcome Chris back because he made some great points today. I imagine he will be able to contribute to tonight’s topic as well.  The debates there were good and one particular one stuck out as I perused the discussions. So I wanted to cover it further tonight. That topic would be the Constitution and its interpretation….

Is the Constitution Meant to be Interpreted?

Why Don’t You Come and Take It From Me?

gun-capital-buildingI have noticed a few comments on the site lately around the issue of the 2nd Amendment. I have never really addressed the issue directly on the site so I figure it is about time. I suppose the reason that I have not addressed the issue previously is because I saw it as so inane that I didn’t think about it much. When debating many political issues, I can usually at least understand the position of the opposite argument to me. But not on this one. I have still never run into a single logical debatable reason for the opposition’s stance. But I will give all of you the chance to give me one…
