Because It’s Offensive to be Thought Stupid

Greetings SUFA. I have a theory that I would like to present regarding political discourse in America and the bitter divide that exists between so many Americans and further between Americans and the politicians that are supposed to represent them. I made the following claim some time back to Charlie Stella: “I believe the primary reason that people seeking some sort of social justice like you have thus far failed in your quest, is that you continue to use irrational logic and emotional appeal in your claims, while calling us names and treating us like we are stupid for having a different belief.” I am going to attempt to expand on that statement and make my case regarding this theory. I look forward to the thoughts any of you may add.

Angst Against the Tea Party

On Friday, I was working the afternoon away when a co-worker popped into my office and asked a question (work related). I gave him the answer he needed and he then asked if I have been following the debt ceiling debates and madness that is going on in Washington DC. “A little,” I answered with a slight smirk, as I didn’t want to get into a political debate in the workplace. But he pressed on. “These Tea Party people are ruining the country. They are roadblocking getting a bill passed by refusing to agree with either party. Our economy is going to go into the shitter all because of them!” Oh my. What to do? Put him in his place? Say nothing and let another ignorant soul wander the earth? Those who know me well enough know that I had no choice, really. I had to say something…
Of Course… This is the Tea Party’s Fault

Voter Fraud is Acceptable… and Necessary

Here in North Carolina, our resident VETO machine, Governor Beverly Perdue (yes those Perdue’s), has been on a bit of tear lately. It seems that since the North Carolina legislature took a decidedly GOP turn in the last election, the staunchly Democratic Perdue has found that her only recourse against laws that the Democrat party deems unacceptable is to VETO them and then pray the Republicans don’t have the votes to overturn. There were a couple more Perdue VETO’s last week, but one in particular caught my eye and, in my opinion, show that the Democratic machine prefers that the election system remains open to fraud and illegal voting. It is apparent that the success of the Chicago machine had a dramatic effect on the party of Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and of course, Perdue.

What I Think the Voters Said on Tuesday

Now that we have had a week or so to digest the results of the 2010 mid-term elections, it is time to begin the process of evaluating what exactly happened and what it means for the next two years. The most obvious result to look at is the massive swing of power in the House of Representatives. The Republicans gained over 60 seats during this election, giving them power in the House and reducing the Democrat control in Washington to only two of the three important bodies. But the real question remains what this election power shift is really going to mean over the next two years, and possibly beyond. Another important question is what happened that enabled the Republicans to sweep so many seats from the other side of the aisle to their own. Finally, what message did we get out of the lopsided victories by two incumbents, Maxine Waters and Charlie Rangel, who are clearly shown as corrupt and crooked and who face ethics panel trials as soon as Congress returns from the election break? I will offer my thoughts on all of the above…

When Even the President Shows Desperation

I begin tonight with an apology that I have not been able to reply the last couple of days. My stubborn wrist has not exactly cooperated. It makes it difficult to type, as it takes me about twice as long to type as it normally does. After spending the day at work, I came home this evening to peruse the days news. News always gets more interesting as we close in towards an election. Each side becomes more desperate depending on who is leading. If a Dem is leading a Senate Contest, the GOP candidate is sure to throw out something wild. If a GOP candidate is pulling ahead, the Democrat is sure to have a new scandalous revelation to offer as proof that the opponent is the devil. I have grown used to it, although I openly admit that watching the races convinces me of one thing: Neither one of the two sides is fit to represent the average American in Washington DC. Yet somehow things never change. In fact they just seem to get worse with each cycle. As I said, I have grown used to seeing Senate and House candidates showing their ass and lying through their hypocritical teeth to sway voters. But then today, I saw something that surprised me. I hadn’t expected that the President of the United States would blatantly lie and twist on the campaign trail. Yet there it was.

Robert Reich Lashes Out Falsely Again

Tonight I reach once again into the bowels of the Huffington Post for an article that I will systematically address, as I am sometimes prone to do. What caught my attention in the headline was the social darwinism part. As most of you know, I am not opposed to social darwinism. I think in many cases it is the proper thing. There are exceptions, but by and large, the survival of the species, according to evolutionary dictates (which I thought Democrats worshiped), demands that we allow the weak to be weeded out of the gene pool. Tonight’s target is Robert Reich. As many of you are aware, Reich served as the US Secretary of Labor and is also a professor at the University of California, Berkeley. I find him to be generally wrong on many things, and his partisan bias is evident in his economic advice. Because he is a strong believer in Keynes principles, I feel he is lost. But when he writes such drivel as below, I feel compelled to call him out on it. For the record, I think that it is authors such as Reich (along with Cesca and Johann Hari) that have rendered the Huffington Post somewhat damaged goods. For every good author and article there will be a clearly partisan and off base one like this.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for September 21, 2010

We reach Tuesday night on the heels of some interesting discussion around Atlas Shrugged and the concepts of the Objectivist philosophy. I will attempt to find time today to answer some of the comments directed at me. I will say up front that there were quite a few fallacies built into the opposition to my articles. I have grown accustomed to such things. But I will once again point them out and do my best to discuss them to completion. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts on the two articles. I assumed there would be folks on both sides. But I was surprised by the lack of understanding on them. Perhaps I needed to do a better job explaining or discussing. For tonight we have more ridiculous name changes from the White House meant to fool voters, a company that is majority owned by government contributing to government campaigns, an attempt to marginalize through association rather than substance, and an interesting poll discussing voter’s feelings about candidates who are willing to compromise. Feel free to add your own topics, as always.

Are Tough Questions Out of the Question?

I once found myself at the crossroads of rational decision-making. Oh, it wasn’t some insane moment where life and death were being decided (well, perhaps my life and death). It wasn’t some moment where a major earth shattering event was unfolding. Nope…. I was in a bar. It just so happened that it was a biker bar. I used to frequent those when I was younger and thought myself a whole lot tougher than I am in my forties. There were buckets of testosterone on each table. Boxes of manhood and muscle were stacked behind the bar. The lighting was dim, the place was filthy, and the steady pounding of hard rock music was only broken every now and then by a selection from one of the superbands of the 70s. There didn’t seem to be a whole lot of value placed on intelligence in that bar. They dealt in respect and feats of strength. It was the kind of place you didn’t walk into unless you were part of the regular scene or you really did believe that you were a pretty tough hombre. I sat at a table with a group from a well known national biker gang, and the discussion turned to racism, and it weren’t good (bad grammar intentional!).

Tuesday Night Open Mic for June 15, 2010

As I begin writing this introduction to the open mic for tonight, I am watching the Celtics versus the Lakers, and hoping that I can will my boys in green to the win and another NBA chamionship. By the time I post this to the site, we will know whether they were able to seal the deal or whether the Lakers managed to stop them and force a game 7. The open mic topics for tonight have a lot of questions for all of you. We are discussing Hydrogen Powered cars, North Korea’s threats against the United Nations, the Democrats chances of retaining 59 Senate seats, and the inability of today’s higher education institutions to prepare graduates to effectively adapt to the modern working world. The Hydrogen vehicle stuff is one where I am relying on some of you science minded folks to weigh in with your thoughts. Obviously, it is open mic, so feel free to fire away with topics of your own as well!

Why the Democrats are Doomed with Health Care

I know, I know, that starts out a little tough. Democrats are doomed. But I really do believe this to be true. Forget about the actual bill for just a moment. We all have differing opinions on whether the bill is a good one or not. But ignore that fact for a moment. What I want to look at is the process we are seeing unfold. I know that those on the left have attempted to justify each of the shady moves that have been either proposed or actually used in order to attempt to get this legislation passed. But the fact is that I simply cannot recall a time when a legislature has acted in such a subversive way in order to do what they would like to do. I am aware I am but a young buck, and I have only followed politics for about 20-25 years. But I simply have never seen something like what we have witnessed over the last year in the health care push. Obviously you can all correct me if I am wrong. But even if I am wrong, and there was a time where stuff like this happened before, I simply fin it sickening to watch it happen in this environment and under these circumstances.
Why Health Care is Already a Giant Mistake for Democrats

It Isn’t the Volume… It’s the Song

I have spent the better part of the last 15 months reveling in the sound of my own voice as I write a blog, hoping to change the world. Or at least the world of politics as we know it. Or at least the minds of a few people who can be reasoned with and who accept logic when it stares them in the face. For the record, I include all the readers of SUFA in that category. Not because we all agree and sing cumbayah together, obviously. But because we have come together, people of different points of view, and rationally discussed issues that matter to us. I believe that most Americans want the same things, albeit in different ways. Sure we have our moments of contention, but overall, I think the vibe here is good and we are making progress in understanding each other, and more importantly, in understanding Washington DC and the mess it has become. Don’t get me wrong, we have a long way to go in America. I need about 150 million reading SUFA to really make things change. Give me time…..
Why Both Sides are Mistaken if they Believe Volume is the Problem

A Country Moving Towards the…

Left. Right Center. Who Knows. We all know what the different factions tells us. The left says the country has moved to the left, and as such their extreme left agenda is what the people want and need. The right tells us the country is on their side. Scott Brown proved it after all. A lot of pundits tell us that the country is primarily in the center, with dwindling numbers the further away from that median you you get. Who to believe? I say believe what you want. It does not matter what they say or what we believe. At least… it shouldn’t matter. We find ourselves in today’s world arguing incessantly about which direction the country needs to move. Political pundits preach the virtues of either cutting taxes or increasing them. And a support of a single issue is constantly considered an endorsement for that entire ideal. And that, dear readers, is a small microcosm of the problem with today’s non-representing representatives. That they represent the people or thier party is a constant debate. What is not part of the debate is whether they represent a solution. And for the record, I am going back to the Open mic tonight to answer some posts from Ray and others, so check that out too.
Why the President Must Ignore These Pundits

I Don’t Want to Tame Big Government….

So as you awaken to the beginning of yet another week in today’s America, I offer today a bit of a pep talk, a bit of a rallying cry, and a bit of a further explanation for where I want to go, both personally and with Stand Up For America. I can tell you all that the last 14 months has been a tough time for me. Challenged by many of you, those faithful readers that have digested my daily thoughts, and then took off your kid gloves and smacked me around, I have spent the last 14 months challenging myself. I found that the paradigm that I had been living for so very long….. was not entirely flawless (yeah, I know… Shocker). I found that while I still am smarter than the average bear, I still make mistakes, find contradictions in my conclusions, and stumble as I attempt to find the path to personal freedom, individual liberty, and personal responsibility. My most shocking conclusion (at least most shocking to me) came in my conclusion about government in general.

What I found is that I have absolutely zero interest in taming big government…. I want to kill it.
I Want to Kill It

Much Criticism… But Is There a Solution?

I was reading yet another article this evening on the Chairman of the Federal Reserve and his ranting about increasing regulations in order to limit the ability of speculators to create a bubble that can throw the economy into crisis. As many of you can guess, I am almost never in favor of increasing regulations on anything. I think the government uses the words regulation to mean control, and not in a good way. And hearing the FED Chairman talk about it, as if the FED had nothing to do with the housing troubles we saw, was nothing more than another level of the blame game in my opinion. As I have often stated here, I am a smart guy, but I am not an economist. I understand economics, and my common sense fills in for those big words. But there are those who understand it better than I do on this site, so I hope they will offer their thoughts as well. The big question that I have at this point is whether there is a good solution to the problems we see in the economy?
Is There Anything That Can Fix Our Economy?

Have Republicans Fallen Out of the Mainstream?

A happy new week to all! Tonight I am going to offer the first of what will be my “fall back plan” during the holidays. As many of you are aware, I run a sales operation. As such, I am in the busiest 5 weeks of the entire year. A little over 30% of the entire year in sales is accomplished between Thanksgiving and Christmas. What that means for me is, as the boss (and the best at what goes on there 😉 ), I end up with a lot of long days and nights where I need extra sleep. As a result, I am unable to research and write as normal. However, I think there are so many important things going on, I want to ensure that we are still maintaining our edge and having important discussions. So my plan is, on the nights when I am unable to write as usual, I will offer perspectives on what is written by others, allowing some discussions to happen on the subjects in a different way.
Are The Republican Core Values Mainstream Any Longer?

Is Obama in Trouble?

Whew…. What a weekend. As many of you know I run a retail business. And that means that this was a big weekend. I can’t speak for where the economy is headed, but there were a ton of folks out this weekend spending money. Tonight I ran across an especially passionate lady who, once started, was fired up about politics as anyone here. I didn’t intend to get into a political conversation, as I try to keep those separate from work. But she sucked me in and I invited her here. I hope she joins us as I would love to have yet another passionate voice eager for action in a positive direction. I mention her because I see more and more folks like her every day. Incensed with the direction of this country. Not just the Democrats in Congress, although she certainly could see their ills at the moment, but with both sides, with bigger government. With an out of control Congress that is working to tax and spend everything, right up to breathing at this point.

The False Emotional Appeal of Health Care Reform

Health Care SymbolAs I monitored the comments to yesterday’s article on the public option, I was saddened to see some of the folks who discussed things fall into the common trap of using an emotional appeal in order to attempt to win a debate. Unfortunately, the entire health care reform debate has become little more than an emotional argument along the same lines of so many other political topics and debates. I won’t attempt to say that the GOP arguments are not also just as emotional in their “appeals”. The GOP is just as guilty in this tactic as the Democrats are. I am going to point out a few emotional appeals that are flawed positions from the GOP. And then I am going to delve in to the health care discussions here lately, and point out the emotional appeals. I will also point out where a few of them are fatally flawed. But what I would like to do is point out to everyone that these emotional appeals are quite effective rhetoric, but completely useless against those who use reason and logic as their starting point.
Why Emotional Appeals are the Tool of the Weak

What is the REAL State of the Political Landscape?

GOP Dead LogoTonight I sat here and thought for quite a while about what I wanted to write about for tonight’s topic. I read all kinds of articles, and hadn’t decided on a topic as of 1:45 am. But I did notice a common theme in articles throughout the different news sites and blogs out there. There were a ton of articles that discussed the upcoming elections that are occurring as you read this. And they all had an opinion one way or another as to what the results from this election will mean going forward. Obviously the results will be interpreted and then given a biased spin by all sides. But the key question seems to be whether what looks like it could be a bad day for Democratic Candidates is a sign of the future or a message being sent to the Democrats. I find that interesting. What message exactly do the national folks think it sends when the races are being determined by such a small percentage of the national population?
What Will Today’s Elections Tell US?

Spend, Tax, Cut, Save, or Give Up?

Not OutragedI was thinking yesterday about the statement made to me that I needed to understand Keynes and his macro-economic model in order to understand why spending is what the government must do in order to get us out of trouble. I have always whole-heartedly disagreed with that statement. As I often have acknowledged, I am not an economic guru, but I think I am a pretty smart fellar. I am well educated (as far as formal schooling) and well read (my friends all say I spend too much time with my head in a book). I try to take a realistic look at the situation and see where it makes the most sense to make a move. Now, our invited guest, who yesterday for some reason did not come and reply back to what I had written, obviously thinks this makes me dumb. But I think on a “macro” level, we might all benefit from having this conversation. I am not going to research out the wazoo for this, I am going to simply say what is on my mind, and let everyone have at it.

What Happened to Reason and Values in This Country? Part 2

stand-up-for-americaAs I started with on Thursday night, I tonight continue my discussion on the failure of Americans to use reason and values in their decisions regarding the federal government, or for that matter the state governments, local governments, and every other “looked up to” person in the public eye. I do want to note up front that Just A Citizen was correct in his nit-picking of my statement the other day. I tend to say “no values” when what I mean that their values are not in line with freedom or liberty. So let me say up front that when I say no values, I mean that their values are inconsistent with liberty, that their values are inconsistent with mine, and, in my opinion, their values are inconsistent with morality. Defining morality is difficult, so perhaps some of our discussion today will be around that, but I think that those who are trying to really understand what I am saying know what I mean when I say it.

As the Poll Numbers Drop…

Obama Yes We Can MatteIt seems that there are endless numbers of polls out there that tell us whatever the talking heads want us to believe. I take them all with a grain of salt. So when the new poll numbers came out from Pew, I wasn’t surprised. I had already seen about 30 different polls claiming that Obama’s approval ratings were dropping. It brings to light an interesting conundrum for the far left in America (and remember I speak of the far left, not all the left). For they have been rubbing this last election cycle in the faces of conservatives and Republicans for quite a while now. So as we see the changes occurring in public opinion, what are we to make of it? I know there will be some out there who simply say the polls mean nothing. But those same folks sure thought the polls meant something 6 months ago. I was reading over at CNN and Jack Cafferty, someone I have a healthy respect for, offered some thoughts that I will share below. But I am interested to hear what everyone thinks on this subject.

Republicans Finding Their Voice?

republican-symbolOver the last week or so I have seen countless articles discussing the current state of politics and proclaiming that the Republicans have found their way back to relevance through the topic of national defense. Along with that are the childish debates about whether Rush Limbaugh, Dick Cheney, or Colin Powell are the proper choice to be the voice of the new Republican party. I read these articles. I watch the videos. I listen to the speeches. And one thing that just sticks in my mind is that the Republicans are grasping at straws. Not one of those three men are fit to be the “voice of the Republican party”. The Republican party has no voice today because they do not stand for anything. They lost their relevance because they pandered and abused and lost their principles. When will that party wake up?

The Importance of Understanding the Past

In keeping with the day of relaxation that I set up for myself today, I decided that I wanted to write a post that was based completely on opinion, no research, no digging around for information. Just my opinion out there for the world to tear apart. That way I was still able to spend the entire day with my wife and even watch a bit of the hockey playoffs and a movie with her. Unfortunately the movie was horrible (“The Spirit”, the only bright spot being a very sexy Eva Mendes) and the hockey game ended with my team taking a loss at home. But that did not dampen my spirit, as my wife prepared a wonderful dinner and I did get to stare at her all day, which is always a good thing.
Why Knowing the History of Our Country is Important

Arlen Specter… Harbinger of Destruction

specter-buttonThe news flash out of Washington today is devastating for those of us who are committed to smaller government and less interference in our personal affairs. While I continue to say that BlackFlag is correct that the color of shit these days doesn’t matter, it does matter in terms of what can be accomplished and what cannot. Any overwhelming majority of either color of shirts, especially the blue ones, radically speeds up the process of government involving itself in every aspect of private industry and personal affairs. So what is this news? Arlen Specter has defected from his party and announced that he is now….. a Democrat. This is bad, bad news for the country if you happen to be against the giant increase in the scope and size of government. The Democratic Party, is now virtually unstoppable.

March Towards Socialism Part 1

socialism1I was talking with someone the other day who had read my “Brownshirts” article and wanted to let me know how horrible it was of me to have insinuated what I did. They accused me of fear mongering and not giving a fair shake to the possible good parts of HR1388. I took pause to consider her thoughts, and eventually decided that I would write this post. Because I say to ignore what we are seeing is insane. I was not fear mongering, or even trying to make the President out to be a bad person. I was pointing out the realities of what is happening in Washington. Perhaps my viewpoints are wrong. But I would like for someone to show me where they are wrong. Her attempts were limited to basically saying passionately that “he just isn’t”. This is the mindset of the average American who isn’t paying attention. But perhaps one of the well read, smart folks here can enlighten me to where I am wrong.
Part 1 of My View of our Current Situation

Letting Stevens Off the Hook

I have a couple of thoughts on this subject. Many of you will remember that former Senator Ted Stevens from Alaska was indicted on federal charges some time ago. He was convicted of seven counts of felony corruption. It was an embarrassment for the Republican Party, at a time when they certainly didn’t need any further embarrassment. It seems some things have changed in regard to his case, certainly the tone against him from Washington has changed as well. I decided that I would address this from both sides of the issue because I think doing so demonstrates the game politicians are playing with us.

Homophobes, Racists, and Wall Street, Oh My

You know, I have already written on the fact that I am quite tired of the tactics of the far left in America when it comes to debate. The problem that I have is that the far left in America is completely unable to debate. Period. They just cannot do it. Their arguments are based on emotion, not facts. They rile up the masses using class warfare instead of telling the truth and finding a better way forward. They generally just annoy me. And when they realize that they are losing the debate horribly they resort to their fall back tactic… name calling.

You Can’t Handle the Truth (Commission)

It seems to me that Democrats are being a bit bitchy these days. They are like that girl you used to date, who was a complete social retard. You dumped her when you found her rifling through your sock drawer looking for some kind thing you did wrong. Now she still tracks your moves and calls each girl you date and tells her what an asshole you are. In other words, she puts a lot of effort into proving you are bad rather than say… cleaning up her own kitchen. That is the Democrat today…

Another Great Post on Coup D’etat by Monkey Wrench

I just wanted to make sure that everyone sees this and takes a read. I was over at Revolution2010’s site a bit ago and read the most intriguing post about the census and the chess game that is being played in order for Democrats to gain seats in Congress through yet another joker in the deck. They are using this new found power to make every quick move they can to change all the rules to stack the deck in their favor. Jump over and read it real quick and leave her some comments. The post is the Shell Game post. Her other one for the day is great as well, entitled the Emperor’s New Clothes. Get there here: Coup d’etat by Monkey Wrench

Using Fear to Get Government’s Way

So how many of you read that headline and said, so he is going to write about Bush and his use of terrorism as a fear mechanism to take our rights away? Well he did, but there is no point in writing about him now. Instead we are going to talk about how Barrack Obama and his party are doing the same. Using your fear around the economy to get you to buy in to the economic stimulus plan. This is a sham and should have Americans rioting in the streets. Unfortunately too many of you will be hearing this for the first time. Shame on you… now pay attention class. This will be a long lecture….
