Interesting Read from Stossel

I apologize to all for my lack of posting the last week or so. I sequestered myself at a lake house with the family and ended up not having such a great connection to the internet. I am back now, but have returned to a hornet’s nest at work and it is eating up my time. I read the following article from John Stossel earlier today and thought it was interesting, so I figured I would share it since I didn’t have the time to write. I look forward to thoughts from all of you on what is certainly a different take on some of the things that are simply accepted as negatives in our society.

Quick Debate Thoughts…

I watched the Republican debate in Iowa this evening. To be honest, I had not intended to watch. Tonight was the first pre-season NFL games and my Baltimore Ravens were playing the Eagles. As it turns out, because of the BS “broadcasting rights”, here in North Carolina the game was blacked out. I despise blacking out professional sporting events. The idea that everyone has the ability to travel to the game is ridiculous. Same happens when the Red Sox play the crappy Orioles. They will black out the game for the national feed and the station that has the rights to broadcast the game will not be showing it. Drives me insane. But, since I couldn’t watch my football game, I decided I would watch the debate…

Tuesday Night Open Mic for October 26, 2010

Tuesday night crept up on me this week. I continue to have a lot to do with work and have managed to thus far keep my head above water with so much going on. I will be going through some big changes over the next month or so. I therefore may be changing some of the schedule of when I post articles and what nights become the mainstays (although I haven’t really figured that part out quite yet). I have received several emails asking why I am not talking more about the elections, as they are only a week away at this point. I simply think there is so much out there already that we would be wasting time attempting to discuss them all. Furthermore, I have my races that I am personally interested in but I have no idea which ones the rest of you are interested in discussing. As this is open mic, feel free to offer up your thoughts on any races that you are interested in discussing. I am following them as much as I can, but simply haven’t had the time to evaluate them. I will begin tonight with just three articles. I will try to find time tomorrow to add another article or two as time permits. I hope you all are having a great week so far.

The Death of Honesty… and Hopefully NPR

So I have a confession to make. I am not a bigot. You know the kind of articles I have written here about idiotic Republicans. But I gotta tell you, when I go out into public and I see people with Obama T-shirts or bumper stickers or hats, I think to myself that they are identifying themselves first and foremost as liberals. I get worried, I get nervous. Now I remember listening to Rahm Emanuel talking about this and stating that the rise of a new, more fair, America is just beginning. That 2008 was just the first drop of blood. I don’t think there is any way to get away from these facts. But we have people who want to remind us that liberals are Americans too and this isn’t a war against liberals, it is a war against radical liberalism in the form of socialist or fascist policies. Alrighty then. Now that I have given my comedic version of Juan Williams remarks on O’Reilly’s program last week, we can simply laugh at how ridiculous it is that someone would have too strong a reaction to them. Yet the reaction from NPR was more than strong, it was conclusive and final. Juan Williams lost his job over what he said on Fox News. And that really bothers me. Maybe more than it should.

Why The Mosque Doesn’t Bother Me

I have arrive back home and can now commence a fairly regular writing schedule again. The last two weeks have been a whirlwind of activity. I can only say that I am happy to be spending time with Canine Weapon again (I had only gotten to see him for one day during the last two weeks) and I am even happier to be back in my own bed (Tempurpedic, which I also only saw for one night in the last two weeks). Traveling is fine and vacation was absolutely wonderful. I always cherish the time I get to spend with family, and last week with Mrs. Weapon’s family was awesome. But I am happy to be home and returning to some sort of normalcy. Finally having a good internet connection has led me to see a lot of coverage around the mosque that is planned for a site two blocks from where the WTC buildings were located. It seems that the Republicans are attempting to hammer this subject home as a campaign issue while the Democrats tend to, for the most part, simply blow it off. Personally, I am a little annoyed at the coverage and a little baffled by the outrage.

White House is Proving They are Not Fit to Lead

Boo Hoo PosterWell, I have returned home and can now get back to writing like I am supposed to write! I was out of town all last week and operating from a hotel with spotty internet access. On top of that I was quite busy with work, which had me on a weird schedule working in a different location. But I did enjoy my time there and met quite a few cool folks in Dawsonville, Georgia. I touched on this subject a week or two ago, and I was going to let it rest because when I talked about it them I thought it was nothing more than a bold and outlandish statement from a rogue idiot in the White House (Anita Dunn). But today saw all the top administration officials from the White House hit the Sunday morning media circuit to further their message and attempt to really begin to take down Fox News. It was one thing when a statement was made. It is quite another now that it has become clear that President of the United States thinks the most pressing item on his plate is taking down a media outlet that doesn’t ask how high when he says jump….

Taking the Fight to Fox News

Fox News LogoLet me start by letting everyone know that wordpress was down on Friday night for about 4 hours. It happened to be the four hours I intended to write, so that was why there was no guest commentary. It was not that I didn’t have submissions that could have been shared. Just wanted to give an explanation for why no article went up on Friday night. I was perusing the stuff out there this evening, hoping to find something that would strike my fancy in terms of interesting political news. I stumbled on to an article over at the Huffington Post discussing the White House’s recent decision to “go on the attack” against Fox News. I will be interested in hearing the opinion on this from the left. I know that we have discussed fox news before, and there are some who despise it. But I think that what we are seeing from the White House is something I cannot ever remember seeing before. And to be honest, it lowered my opinion of the White House a bit…

Why Does the Left Hate Glenn Beck?

Beck CNNWhew…. I just finished finally answering Charlie in yesterday’s thread. As many of you will see, I got a bit lengthy there. I try not to but I want to be fair and actually try to answer the questions that he brings up. I am supposed to be off work on Thursday, so hopefully I will be a little better prepared to participate in the conversation as I had intended to do today. Work got a hold of me and never let me go. So I apologize publicly to Charlie for failing to participate today. I will do better at responding tomorrow baring any more emergencies. I was going to begin talking about Iran and Afghanistan tonight, but it is 2:00 am as I start working on a new post tonight so I only have time to finish one that I had already started. So instead I move up Glenn Beck to the discussion table. I know that the name brings chills down the spine of some of the more left leaning folks on this blog. And I simply don’t understand why. I understand the dislike for Rush Limbaugh. He is a blowhard who makes up facts as he goes. But Beck doesn’t seem to be cut from the same mold, even though the left is trying to paint him that way.

Arianna and Her Den of Hateful Idealogues

Huffington Post, logo1I was looking around this evening figuring out what I would write about. I have had so little time with my son here that I end up not starting until late in the evening. As I begin here I look at the clock and it is 1:43 am. But I was reading at a bunch of sites and I stumbled upon this article on The Huffington Post. I have to say, reading the Huffington Post often disturbs me. To read some of what the liberal folks post there and the things they say is downright infuriating. So I am going to take a moment here to single out one jackass who writes for the Huffington Post. Because it is important to realize the hate and vitriol that is being spewed at some of the most read far left sites out there. It gives you insight into the far left (which, for the record, does not include Ray, lest he be offended thinking I am talking about him). But I am also going to point to some folks there who have written some good stuff too.

Strike While the Crisis is “Hot”

hottest-hoaxSo I was perusing the news today while on my dinner break, reading about the South Carolina Governor Hoo Ha. I clicked back out to the main articles and delved into the articles about Ahmadenijad giving the US a stern verbal warning for interfering in their election process and governmental affairs (Did he even watch Obama’s press conference?). And low and behold I saw the article that would be the chosen topic for the day. The article was titled “Obama: Now Is the Time to Pass Climate Change Bill”. You guys know what I think of this whole man made global warming bullcrap. So I read the article to see what kind of bullcrap environmentalist rhetoric would be shared with us today. It turns out that this is a lot of more of the same, but we are already again seeing the terms crisis and imminent threat being throw around in regard to climate change. And I am not buying it even one little bit. Game on Mr. President.

Blame it on the Rain… Or Rush… Or Coulter… Or…

Silent Majority No MoreLast week we saw yet another horrible act committed by a man that was obviously demented and mentally screwed in the head. He decided to walk into the National Holocaust Museum and begin shooting. He shot and killed a security guard before being shot himself by other guards at the site. The reaction from the main stream media has been, on several fronts, to link the killer to conservative causes and further to say that this deranged man was spurred on by conservative commentators such as Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, and Bill O’Reilly. I find this “reporting” by the MSM despicable. Not only is it dishonest, and hateful, it is hypocritical. I have had just about as much of the liberal media as I can take at this point, and I have decided that I am going to continue to pound home the pieces of trash that they have become for as long as it takes.
