Tuesday Night Open Mic for August 24, 2010

Tuesday night comes again. This week we are on the heels of my proposal to eliminate the FDA. I was a little disappointed with the first day’s responses, but I felt the second day was better. I especially liked Mathius’ alternative plan offering. While I am a little skeptical of it, I love having alternatives offered and the real ideas discussed without the silly games of simply attempting to discredit the original idea with nonsense. If people would like me to, we can sit on the FDA thing for a week or so and repost some of the stuff later for more discussion after people have time to think it through. Let me know if you want to do that. For the open mic we have three topics from me, including Hillary continuing to beat the climate change thing down people’s throats, California cities looking at punishing accident victims by charging them taxes for emergency services and then charging them fees when they use them, and my personal frustration with the conflicting information spewing from all sides of government these days. Additionally, we have a topic carried over from Peter in Indy and the possibility of Snopes being exposed from Cyndi. I look forward to the conversations.

Another Two Articles for Your Perusal

I don’t have a guest commentary on this fine Thursday night. So instead I figured I would take the opportunity to hit on two different articles that I felt would make for some interesting commentary. I have a belief, and I will write more on this later, that national security will become once again one of the focus issues in the upcoming congressional election cycle. In fact, it may be the defining issue, even surpassing deficit spending and the economy. But overall, and again I will cover this in a full article coming soon, I believe that we may be more vulnerable in terms of national security than we have been in a very long time. These two articles play into this concept, but not completely. However, I am interested in hearing the take on these topics because we have not gotten into the subject of the first one very much and the second is a reversal of previous claims that our own resident pirate used in his argument against Iran’s nuclear ambitions. So here they are. Feel free to discuss away. I will do my best on Friday to jump in fairly often and offer my thoughts as well. and as always, you can use this thread to post articles that you want to talk about as well.

Nationalized Health Care… A Canadian’s View

guest-commentaryFriday night comes once again, which means that we are at the part of the week that gives the readers of Stand Up For America the chance to have their voices heard on issues that are passionate to them. This has been a pretty tough week of learning and discussing! All the philosophy discussions not only forced us to use that ten pound lump of matter in our heads, but may have actually caused some of us to begin the process of reevaluating the positions that we have held sacred for so long. While difficult, I do believe that this is one of the best things we can possibly accomplish. You have heard me say several times that while debating BF is maddening, he will force you to solidify your position or abandon it. Now you are all beginning to learn the tools that will make others say that about you!

The March Towards Socialism Part 5

socialism1Really? I have found the ability to write enough on this subject to warrant 5 parts? As a matter of fact I have. And you know why? Because this march was not started recently. It has been a long and slow march. But we are in the home stretch of this series, which hopefully is not the home stretch for the country as well. Tonight we will handle the run-up to President Obama. He will certainly warrant his own post as that is the evil of socialism/fascism that we can confront. The rest of these folks aren’t in power any longer, so we can’t do much but look at what they did to help the cause along. It is not that I want to live in the past. It is only that I wanted, with this series, to provide some idea of the scope of how long this build-up has been going on, so that you will understand how we got here and how difficult it will be to change course. I hope that there are those among you noticing that a certain thing is missing from this march to socialism series…
