Tuesday Night Open Mic for January 4, 2011

Open mic night comes again and I get the opportunity to finally stand up for my previous company in a way that I was unable to previously, as you will see below. I do so because, first, what was said was factually incorrect, and second, because I kept a lot of people quiet on the promise that I would address it. So I really hope my target for the day doesn’t get upset with me for calling it out 🙂 . I am trying over the next couple of weeks to really get more settled into my regular routine again as I will be done with that previous company in two more weeks and now just have to adjust to different working hours. However, as I mentioned the other day, I will be requiring surgery at some point in the coming weeks and that could render me useless for a day or two (which some folks may argue is no change at all!). But for now, I write on into the new year. I think there are some good topics below and of course I welcome any topics that others may want to add. I will try to check in throughout the day and join in the discussion.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for April 20, 2010

We come off of some great discussions about whether or not people in this country are really seeking liberty over the last few days. I have appreciated the thoughts from everyone, and I thank everyone again for keeping it civil. I do so which that there was less dancing and more discussion on some of the threads though. Would it kill some of you to just answer the questions that are asked of you rather than dancing and avoiding them?  🙂  Tonight there are more topics that are discussed than usual simply because I had been working on some of them earlier in the week and more interesting ones came up to add! Just a note to Todd, I am not avoiding answering your questions. I simply ran out of time tonight. I will work to respond to you as promised throughout the day on Wednesday.
Happy 4/20 Day!!!

GOP Wants to Deny Human Rights

We begin another week with me wondering what exactly is the path forward for the United States. There are so many wrongs and only a few rights lately. The tough part is that the wrongs are often being committed for the “right” reason. Just a quick look through the sites I frequent tonight show me the President looking to take action against financial institutions, which I understand, but it will have horrible consequences. I will be writing about this coming soon. Another article talked about using reconciliation to pass health care. Again, I have and will continue to write about this subject (The tough part here is that so few details are actually being offered by the administration or Congress, leaving the argument “there is no bill to criticize” on the table for all who want to avoid the debate). But I ran across this article last week. It didn’t get a lot of press that I saw. But I felt that it must be covered, because this is an instance where, in my opinion, we are wrong and for the wrong reasons. At what point to we become no better than those we denounce?

Arlen Specter… Harbinger of Destruction

specter-buttonThe news flash out of Washington today is devastating for those of us who are committed to smaller government and less interference in our personal affairs. While I continue to say that BlackFlag is correct that the color of shit these days doesn’t matter, it does matter in terms of what can be accomplished and what cannot. Any overwhelming majority of either color of shirts, especially the blue ones, radically speeds up the process of government involving itself in every aspect of private industry and personal affairs. So what is this news? Arlen Specter has defected from his party and announced that he is now….. a Democrat. This is bad, bad news for the country if you happen to be against the giant increase in the scope and size of government. The Democratic Party, is now virtually unstoppable.
