The Death of Honesty… and Hopefully NPR

So I have a confession to make. I am not a bigot. You know the kind of articles I have written here about idiotic Republicans. But I gotta tell you, when I go out into public and I see people with Obama T-shirts or bumper stickers or hats, I think to myself that they are identifying themselves first and foremost as liberals. I get worried, I get nervous. Now I remember listening to Rahm Emanuel talking about this and stating that the rise of a new, more fair, America is just beginning. That 2008 was just the first drop of blood. I don’t think there is any way to get away from these facts. But we have people who want to remind us that liberals are Americans too and this isn’t a war against liberals, it is a war against radical liberalism in the form of socialist or fascist policies. Alrighty then. Now that I have given my comedic version of Juan Williams remarks on O’Reilly’s program last week, we can simply laugh at how ridiculous it is that someone would have too strong a reaction to them. Yet the reaction from NPR was more than strong, it was conclusive and final. Juan Williams lost his job over what he said on Fox News. And that really bothers me. Maybe more than it should.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for August 31, 2010

Tuesday night has again crept up on me. I offer some more good articles for discussion this week, including one sent to me by a friend. I included it because it really did kind of speak directly to how I was feeling about Beck’s rally this last weekend. It is the first article below, so thanks for sending that over. Elsewhere we have UCLA firing a scientist because his scientific results didn’t match their political opinions, the possibility that the Republican party could embrace gay rights, and absolute impotency of the federal regulatory agency that always lets us down, the SEC. I will be posting a guest commentary on Thursday night but will be largely unavailable this weekend, as my sister is getting married. JAC, if you could bring the topic forward that I mentioned would be good for open mic, I would appreciate it greatly. Still taking applications for regular contributors to the site as well! Enjoy your Tuesday everyone. I will be weighing in all day when possible.

Why The Michigan Trip was Dumb, but not Wrong

I don’t have a new guest commentary ready to go (in fact I don’t think I have any at all to even get ready!). So I decided I would quickly put together an article that explored an article that caught my attention today. There seems to be a fair amount of hype going on around the story coming out that a Michigan elementary school teacher organized a class field trip that intentionally did not allow white children to attend. When I first heard the sound bytes, I was a little bit angry. After all, I do not approve of children, or anyone else, being discriminated against because of the color of their skin. However, after reading a bit more to the story, hearing the explanation from the principal in question, and reading the note that he sent out to parents, I have come to the conclusion that the decision to have this “black children only” field trip was incredibly stupid. But I do not feel that it was wrong. In fact, I would completely support this principal if he came to me with this idea, if only I lived in a less quirky and touchy society.

The Death of Whiners and CryBabies

dem-crying-baby-sealYou know, I am a fairly blunt and straightforward guy. I tell it the way I see it. And while I do a pretty fair job, in my own humble opinion, of being a kinder and gentler USWeapon when discussing things on my blog, sometimes it is tough. You see…. I despise whining and crying and people getting their feelings hurt over something that they should not have any issue with. So while I intend to be ethical and moral in my foundations for a new way forward, I have determined that I will abandon those priciples when it comes to people’s feelings and political correctness. A USWeapon administration will abolish political correctness and move whining and being a crybaby up on the offense scale to the level of treason. Punishable by death. The American mentality shall be reinforced in Americans and the time for weakness is over.

Silencing Christianity

christian-persecutionAs many of you may recall, I recently wrote a post suggesting that the religious right be minimized in the Republican platform and stripped of power in setting the agenda. I laid out my reasoning. Some agreed and some disagreed. I was asked yesterday about a current trend in discrimination against christians in America. I offered to write a post about it because there were certainly a few different religious discussions threatening to break out. Couple this with the recent discussion I saw about Muslims and I feel like perhaps the time has come for a bit of a religious discussion. I enter into the territory with trepidation, however….

American Revolution Part Deux

You say you want a revolution? Me too. I have used the word early and often on this site because I am good and pissed off. Wait… that sounds a bit too angry. How about this… I am less than pleased with the outcome of recent electoral processes and slightly dissatisfied with the direction of the two primary political parties represented in today’s national political spectrum. Ah, FRACK IT. I am pissed off. Who am I kidding? I am a little bitter, a little fired up, a little less wealthy, a little more kicked around, a little bit country and and little bit Rock n Roll. Those last two would make a great song… nah, it would never work.
