Tuesday Night Open Mic for May 11, 2010

It is always a fun night for me when I do open mic. I get to do little touches on stories that wouldn’t be nearly big enough for me to devote an entire article to. Additionally, I get to really scour the net and all the different sites out there to find topics, which gets me seeing lots of little interesting articles. I have often contemplated something like having a “bizarre article or website of the week” or “You Tube Video of the Week” where we truly share some of the absolutely bizarre things out there, or the really funny or interesting things. Perhaps some day soon I shall have to go down that path and begin doing something like that. But for tonight we have our regular stuff: politics. We begin with yet another fascist ruling from a public education system that has gone absolutely mad. We touch on the President’s Supreme Court nomination, as well as his comments that information today has become a distraction. Only three topics for me tonight, but I didn’t have as much time as usual. I will try to add one or two throughout the day to whatever all of you post!

How Many REALLY Want Freedom?

I have been thinking a lot lately about the concept of freedom and liberty as it pertains to the discussions that we have here at Stand Up For America. I read the responses that come in to the things that I write. Often I can find plenty of people who are more than willing to agree with me or tell me how wrong I am. But what I have have been attempting to ascertain is the level of commitment that people have to the principles that they espouse on this site. Remember, quite a while ago, I spoke to the idea that some things I would write would be discussions about how things should be while others would be more concerned with dealing with where we really are. Well, what I offer tonight is a bit of a combination of the two. Because in the discussions that we have been having around the way things are, I have begun to feel like the way things should be is not something most are comfortable with.
Freedom is Just Too Hard

Tuesday Night Open Mic for September 29, 2009

Open Mic 1Tuesday night and time again for open mic. I know that there are a couple of topics already lined up for this as there is the promised discussion between Charlie and myself and a thread that has been requested by Common Man that I also promised to put up. On top of that there are a few different topics out there in the news that I want to touch on so I have a full night planned here on what is supposed to be my “easy” night, lol. I have blockaded the puppy here with me so that he has no choice but to hang out with dad. And I will settle in to begin the discussion with Charlie (or at least to open it as my schedule ends tonight at 4:00 am and doesn’t bring me back to the site until around noon on Wednesday). Then we can get down to business. And once I get this all done I have some comments from yesterday’s post to go back and respond to! Oh the life of a blogger never ends. And to answer Charlie’s first question about wondering how I keep up on the site? I honestly couldn’t tell you. I am not sure that I do. I never feel like I have enough time to do all I want to do for the readers here.
A Quick Highlight of Upcoming Topics and then Open Mic

Stealth Legislation as a Positive?

stand-up-for-americaAs I mentioned the other night, I have my son with me for the summer, and while it hasn’t affected much the last couple of weeks, that won’t always be the case. Over the next three remaining weeks of his time here, there may be several nights where I choose to spend time with him as opposed to spending 4 hours writing an article. Just figured I would let everyone know why some nights might end up with no article, or limited amounts of my own thoughts, such as tonight. I was using my very limited time this evening to read a lot of articles on different subjects, hoping I would find something early to research and then write about. I stumbled across this article on the Huffington Post website. The headline jumped out at me and I couldn’t resist reading it. And as I did I became more and more annoyed at the blatant disregard for integrity or honesty from government….
The Death of American Integrity

Well Then…. Let’s Just Get it All Out There Part 2

stand-up-for-americaAs I mentioned in part one, I have finally been able to get to reading al of the comments directed to me out there. I am taking the time to answer some of them directly so that we can move forward with a better understanding of what is true for me. In the first part I responded to TexasChem on the ideas of personal freedom and liberty for all persons in the United States, regardless of their religion or sexual orientation. Now I will take the time to address D13, who seemed to question my path forward. The interesting thing is that I am not much different from him, but I think that he has misconstrued my thoughts and ideas. So I want to clear that up and discuss how I view the discussions on this site as three distinctly different ongoing conversations.

My Education Is Making Me Dumberer… Re-Hashed

education-mugSo I spent far too long talking to some people tonight that I had neglected far too long. A good long discussion with Revolution2010, who’s current mad schedule robs us of her keen intelligent insight on this blog. And another with a good friend from school who I had missed for the last week or two. But that left me with very little time. As I write this it is already almost 4:00am. I was going to write an article tonight discussing economics, because there was some good discussion about it yesterday and I wanted to continue it. But I found that I didn’t have time to do the research I wanted to do in order to do that article. Therefore, that article will be tomorrow night’s post, and it should be good! So I have fallen back on an old article that I wrote in December. We had far fewer readers then (I think I got about 15 comments on that article. We got over 400 yesterday on open mic!). And I think that this is a good discussion that we need to re-hash and discuss. There should be far more insight into the topic now than there was then, so I look forward to that because it is a topic that I hold near and dear to my heart….
The Abyss That is Our Public Education System

My Education is Making Me Dumberer

The Libertarian dissections have been good, and Act V is written and ready for posting tomorrow night. However, there have been quite a few discussions in the comments around Education and the state of our public school systems. I have tried to reign them in to save them for this post but I decided I needed to get to writing this before I lost control. I think this is a very important subject so I expect a lot of conversation around it. So here is the post dedicated to the public school systems in America…
How Can We fix the Public Education System?
