The Economy and the Three Bears

In tonight’s discussion, I am not going to get longwinded and forge into foreign territory in discussing the macroeconomics and Keynesian principles. Lord knows that Congress and the talking heads do their best to baffle us with bullshit enough around the economy. What I am going to do is offer a few thoughts on the current situation and then ask for everyone else to offer their thoughts on what exactly it is that we are supposed to be doing if we want to make things right in our financial future. I don’t want to disregard the idea that we are simply screwed. I understand that there are many who feel that way. I can certainly see why they fall into that belief. And they may be right. Perhaps we are past the point of recovery. Perhaps all we can do is soften the blow that will inevitably come. Or perhaps we cannot even do that. Perhaps this is going to really hurt and there is nothing that we can do about it. Obviously, no one who works in the federal government is willing to say so. Doing so would be to admit that no matter what they do they are simply screwing us.

Tuesday Night Open Mic for February 16, 2010

Tonight we have a bit of a theme in our open mic topics, at least in the ones that I am providing. Those who add other subjects don’t have to stick to any theme. The theme seems to be partisanship. Evan Bayh says it is the reason he is leaving. Robert Reich says it has been the big obstacle. The DNC is using partisan rhetoric that is ridiculous against the GOP states that accept stimulus funds. And finally, Obama is doing something that I feel is a centrist move by investing in nuclear power. In three of the four articles, we see partisanship overcome or discussed as a negative by influential figures. Are we looking at a situation where the people in positions of power are beginning to understand that the partisanship is Washington is causing the majority of Americans to lose faith in the entire system? Or are these outsiders simply a few enlightened folks who see the issues and want to deal with them. Interesting day in the news cycle, none-the-less. So on to the open mic…

Transparency I Can’t See Through

democrat_and_republican_symbols1When I was a kid, I used to have the habit of walking or standing in the way of whatever my parents would be watching on the television. Inevitably, I would get the comment from my father that I “make a better door than a window,” letting me know that he cannot see through me. I have never forgotten that phrase and I continue to use it on my son and Mrs. Weapon. But I think that it is quite safe to say that, despite campaign promises to “bring transparency to Washington,” this administration, like all those before it, has no interest in being transparent. In fact I think that this administration is far less transparent than any administration in my lifetime. So I have to say that government really makes a better lead lined concrete wall than a window these days.
The Biggest LACK of Transparency in Political History

The Messiah Recants Again… and Again

I am going to continue to call out these things. It isn’t just because I disagree with the direction that Obama and the Democratic leadership (I despise even calling them leaders because it is an insult to real leaders everywhere) are taking the country. And make no bones about it, I completely disagree with the direction they are heading. I will continue to call out these things because I hope that some of the Democrats who read this blog, and who fully support Obama based on what he says, will eventually understand that he is lying through his teeth each time he addresses the nation. If the guy was actually doing any of the things he claimed I might support him a bit.

Transparency We Can Believe In

Hope and Change, Hope and Change, HOPE AND CHANGE!!! If we say it enough times perhaps we will actually see some of it. But let’s be honest, we aren’t seeing much hope coming from the new administration are we? I have documented the doom and gloom coming from the President. As far as change, it sure seems like the only change is the party affiliation of those who are screwing us most. We can continue to click our ruby red slippers together and chant “There’s no place like Hope and Change” until our feet bleed, but we have to face up to the fact that the American public got duped again.

And 3 Senators Who Crossed the Party Line

I have posted the thread on the 7 Democrats that crossed their party lines and voted no on the ridiculous economic spendulus bill. I hailed them for holding to their beliefs in the face of tremendous pressure from their party. It is only fair that I now do the same for the Republican Senators who refused to vote the way that their party demanded that they vote. This is not an endorsement of the stances that they took. I hated the bill. But I do think that these three took a bit more of a chance than even the Democrats from the House did.
Three Mavericks That Went the Other Way

Proud to be a North Carolinian Today!

heath-shulerSo about 4 months ago, this journey into the blogging world began with Revolution calling me and talking about politics. We had just witnessed the election of a new President and realized that Congress was in the complete control of the Democrats. We were disgusted by the Republican Party and were interested in exploring the Libertarians. During one of these discussions we were talking about the so called “Blue Dog” Democrats when I said there was one to watch…

My New Favorite Congressman

congressman-ted-poeAs you are all well aware, I am pretty fed up with the representation, or lack thereof, that “we the people” are getting from our elected officials in Washington. Someone gave me a link to a video the other day and I found it hilarious. I will be posting it soon so that everyone can enjoy it. The speech is by Congressman Ted Poe, a Republican from the 2nd District in Texas. Congressman Poe may be my new favorite Representative. He simply tells it like it is and that is a bit refreshing. Here is a sample of his speech on the floor of the house…
